Is the Best work you do in your Younger Years?

Familiarity breeds contempt. That and the fact that the kids don't want to listen to records by wrinklies but both McCartney and Prince are two perfect examples of artists making music in the last few years which was very good.

Writers and classical musicians produced great stuff into their senility.
Beethoven, infamously, for years when deaf.
I'm sure "image" is a lot to do with it? Having said that, I can listen to many musicians I really ike
and they often seem to peak about album 2-4 and it's downhill from then. But not always.

There's something very depressing about getting the new album by someone you like and it's a pile of ****.

Very few pop/rock do anything of note after the initial creative burst.  Most of them seem to become their own tribute act.   

The legacy of most would have benefited from them choking to death on their own vomit 30 years earlier.

How many artists have ever had more than 2 GREAT albums ? Most dine out for the rest of their career on one if their lucky to have made one.

Painters seem to get better.

Songwriters get worse.

If you've got little you will strive to get more.

Once they are comfortably well off, most people lose their edges in most cases.

That's all there is to it really.

Although with performers they crave for the adoration of a live audience, so there's more incentive there to deliver.
