The Government's £95,000 grant to Operation Grange, announced two weeks ago, was seen by some people as a final stay of execution for the probe.
However, Mr Duthie insisted that the investigation may continue into 2017, saying: 'I imagine that if we have not completed our inquiries within six months we will go back to the Home Office and ask for more money.'

I find this staggering, has there ever been as much money and time looking for one child ? I'm sure there is a fund set up for her which has about 2 million pounds, not sure why tax payers money is needed, Ben Needham's family must be particularly bemused, every now and then this story is kick started by Scotland Yard detectives who it seems do enjoy their summer trips to the Algarve all expenses paid. This 100k would pay for 4 or 5 nurses salary instead their going to dig up more scrubland.

you should never post negative comments about money being spent to search for missing children............

I think enough money has been spent, a disproportionate amount, especially when there is already a designated fund for this very purpose

Some of this think that perhaps parent ought to look after their own children. If the Mccan's had done that she would still be with them.

Enough public money has been spent, nobody else gets this...we will never find her now.

For some reason women don't like me, I have never understood whySad

I bath once a year, I would allow them time off from doing all my housework one afternoon a week

I may even buy them a bunch of flowers if they did not cost too much, can't say fairer than that

At some stage you do have to admit defeat, you can't go on for ever throwing money at the search.
BTW not sure what the extra £95k is for but it it's just a fraction of the costs in manpower.

By continuing this investigation are the police going to be any nearer finding what happened to Maddie

or apprehending a suspect?

They should not be investigating for the sake of investigating, this is a serious waste of public money.

Of course if there is any fresh evidence or they have some new investigation technique then they re open the case

that is normal procedure.

There have been plenty of unsolved crimes one does not keep investigating them forever, this is ridiculous.

One should only do this if there is a reasonable chance of solving the crime.

So are they xmoneyx

If they wish to continue this investigation, the police need to be asked one question

When do they hope to make an arrest?

They cannot continue this investigation unless they are believe they are closing in on the suspect.

This is the job of police, they are paid to solve crime, so when are they going to do it in this case?

If they can solve this crime then do it otherwise they should have the honesty to admit they cannot.

It is reasonable to ask the police to do the job that they are paid for. The police must issue a progress report

and what they are hoping to achieve before they get any more public money.

Wonder how much money Leaving No Stone Unturned Limited has to pay for another appeal. Surely most of it's funds have gone towards the tireless search for Maddie.

It is right that they should still be searching for Maddie. Money is still being spent on looking for Ben Needham, and he's been missing for about 25 years.

Ben Needams Mum was given a one off sum last year to start a proper search.
Was £700k or thereabouts whilst more than £10m has gone into the search for Madeleine.
When do you stop?
By:
ebulGery
When: 21 Apr 16 00:08
I agree akabula

These cases are not closed. They are kept open until some new evidence comes in.

When our police went out to Portugal they said they expected to be making arrests, nothing since?

The truth is they are no further forward than the Portuguese Police were years ago are they???????????????

What is there left to do they have not done, or are they going to investigate everybody in Portugal?

This is ridiculous, there is no point in investigating for the sake investigating, the evidence is not there

to close this case, it may never be?

We have only just closed the Jack the Ripper case, but that was not of public funds, thank God!

The Mccans are rich enough to fund any enquiries if they want more?
By:

When: 21 Apr 16 00:11
They are not rich. Why would you think they are?
By:
akabula
When: 21 Apr 16 00:15
Maybe not rich, I don't know, crags but they could certainly downgrade their home and use the cash for the fund.
