Discharge - De-control for me |

Heard 'At the Edge' - Stiff Little Fingers recently... first time I'd listened to it in years... bought back plenty of memories.
Best punk records? Anything by the pistols or the clash. God save the queen takes some beating... Garageland by the clash was always a personal favourite of mine |

Skids and Buzzcocks were new wave bands Using wikipedia as the arbiter, neither the Skids nor the Buzzcocks receive a mention in the site's 'new wave music' page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_wave_music) but both are mentioned under 'punk' in the 'early history' section. |

New Rose by The Damned should be on the list, shirley.

I was working in an indie record shop in the late 70's and probably heard every punk album that came out. There was some gold but a massive amount of sh1te too.
Faves for me were The Clash, stiff little fingers, crass and John cooper-clarke if poets are allowed. |

What is Punk, what is New Wave? Who knows, who cares?
What I do know is that all of the below were more than happy to be lumped in with the emerging Punk Class of '77, and made a few bucks out of it. UK Punk The Stranglers : 'Goodbye Toulouse' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQvN8GoP_wc USA Punk The Ramones : 'Teenage Lobotomy" . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ssoBUb2cJk erm, Belgium Punk Plastic Bertrand : "Ca Place Pour Moi" . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6HrLN32hvw Enjoy P.S. I am the King of the Divan. |

Blackbarn ,i was going to put New Rose ,but the trouble is it looks too cliched - but never the less possibly the best punk record ever .
|
|
By:
![]() A lot of bands from that era sounded very new wave but had a punk image - i mean ,who the hell would class the Police and the Boomtown Rats as punk bands FFS ? ,but in the early days some labelled them just that. UK Subs, (Undertones?) ,SatBanshees ,Skids ,Stranglers ,Buzzocks ,Sham 69 all sound new wave to me ,but simply had a rebellious image . In fact the Stranglers started off as something else entirely and just joined the bandwagon as punk got going . SLF ,Damned ,Clash and a few others actually sounded like Punk bands .then a few hard core punk bands followed . Bands like the Offspring,Greenday , Sum 41 and Blink 42 of course are also punk bands ,but a different era - that's a topic for another day But this is all my opinion of course ![]() |

Patrik Fitzgerald's Safety Pin Stuck In My Heart EP is still worth a listen.
But releasing God Save The Queen for the Silver Jubilee, with the nation as it was right then, just about killed punk both musically and as a movement. How could you ever top that? He meant it, man. |

Saw the angelic upstarts at the Lafayette in Wolverhampton (late '70s)..... a load of brummie skinheads came over.... There was an absolute riot. Just like something from a wild west film.

Mecca - yes, my radio was tuned to Fabulous 208 throughout the Summer of '77 and beyond. Easily better than R1 in those days for Punk/New Wave.
Remember the non-stop adverts for Peter Stuyvesant ciggies. The presenters used to even fake smoking them as I recall on air to tell us how wonderful they were. |
