Jeff Beck in the criminally underrated Yardbirds (who had Clapton, Beck, Paige as their lead guitarists!!) in 'You're a better man than I.'

From 1.30 - simply mesmeric what that fella can do with a guitar!!

depends what you define as a riff, a short break, a long solo or a prominent base riff running right through the track?
Bowie did some great ones deceptively simple catchy and memorable.

Some great guitar playing in "Crossroads" ...
Crossroads is a 1986 musical dramatic feature film inspired by the legend of blues musician Robert Johnson. Starring Ralph Macchio, Joe Seneca and Jami Gertz, the film was written by John Fusco and directed by Walter Hill and features an original score featuring Ry Cooder and Steve Vai on the soundtrack's guitar, and harmonica by Sonny Terry. Vai also appears in the film as the devil's guitar player in the climactic guitar duel.
Young guy Macchio miming - his part (slide guitar) played by Ry Cooder - great guitar duel with Steve Vai.

Oh FFS blackmore is overrated, when the song you bring up is more famous for it's HAMMOND ORGAN solo you're onto a loser as a guitar solo!! And I like deep purple. At least say "burn" or something, a far better song or album ("in rock" is so overrated). I have that album recorded on orphans fingernails, which is what we used to make them on before corbyn invented vinyl, back in the 40s, played on our gramophones.

I listen to a lot of music and tbh can't think what my best solo is. Eruption is famous but meh. There's your melodic stuff that is beautiful but not maybe that "skilled". I've never like joe satriani and all that sort of t*ss.
I've always liked Randy Rhoads. Died very young, god knows what he'd have done by now.

Here's an idea if you've never heard of him, was Ozzy's solo guitarist for a bit:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fqbKVkhz6U
He mixed talent with an ear, it seems to be a rare combination.
