Why do we laugh?

Not many laughs on here these days, pal. The average now lowered by this thread

And some people give them away.
you could be sitting in the pub minding your own business and the the guy beside you will say"do you want a laugh"or he might not even ask you if you want a .he will say"wait till I give you a laugh"

And others will tell you where you can get a laugh="there was a great laugh on the telly last night"

The pub/office bore in the'old days'  Where have those guys ended up?

And if there is three in the company one will say"Joe,tell steve about the laugh you had yesterday in the supermarket"
So I have worked out that people like to talk about their laughs.But I still don't know WHY we laugh

yes that's another fact.
some will say"we had a great laugh in the pub last night,even Johnny was laughing"=this really means johnny  never laughs .

and you can give somebody a laugh but you can not borrow a laugh.

It is just something that happens.
There is always a class clown for example.
Many years ago we had a class clown in our school. He gave us more to laugh at in 15 minutes than other kids in a whole year.
He was very good at making funny faces and had all kinds of expressions.

His sheep face was for when he was in real trouble, he put that on when he was getting caned.
Everyone liked him.

We were always pushing him into playing naughty tricks, which we shouldn`t have done.
Wonder what became of him?

Well we can rule out you having gone to school with James Corden, Jack Whitehall or Russell Brand then

Absurdity - usually a situation arises thats really absurd. one of the best laughs I had that hurt my sides and made me pee a little was Spike Milligan - he painted his arms with paint to introduce a tv show. Could not stop laughing. thought it was gonna kill me. didn't even have a drink? - could see a situation were you could die laughing.

standup comedy usually gets chuckles but not laughing episodes.

laughing is a strange thing.if you are at a football match and a dog runs on to the pitch the 50 thousand people all laugh at the poor guy who has to catch it.
