Go out for a meal in a restaurant, bistro or pub these days, and there's a chance your food will be presented on something other than a plate.

Last week in a not so poncey wine bar I had a chicken Caesar salad arranged on a wooden chopping board and at a wedding reception a few weeks back the very excellent food came on
slate roofing tiles.

Then I recently noticed wewantplates.com - The need to serve up food and drinks in daft ways seems to have gripped chefs all over the country.

Valentines day burger on a heart shaped slate Love

Tempura in a glass shoe - why not? Crazy

Fry up in a surgical tray Shocked

Fish and Chips in a wok - inspired. Confused

Most minging of the lot imo - sherpherd's pie in a tankard Scared

Is this mainly a Southern/that London thing, or is this going on all over the kingdom?

I like it.  Imaginative and creative, adds to the sense of occasion.

I should think there is something untrustworthy about it, and the people who look at it.

As someone of reasonable sound mind this sort of thing frightens me.

I'm blushing for anyone tragic enough to judge that Shepherd's Pie in the beer glass as "imaginative" let alone "creative".

I'd love to have been a fly on the wall at that the meeting of "creative" minds that decided that what the sophisticated consumer really wanted was a Shepherd's Pie crammed unrecognisably into a pint glass, looking about as unappetising as diarrhoea.

If someone tries to serve you shepherds pie in a bedpan proceed with extreme caution

here's another one. A scotch egg served with black pudding; apparently.

Not sure where - possibly a Working Mens Club in Hartlepool.

There's a Japanese restaurant that I frequent that serves sushi on the naked bodies of nubile maidens.

The added design bonus is that there are options as to where to store your chopsticks if you need to nip out for a ciggy or a trip to the loo. Wink

Unlikely HHSV

The Elite Foodie Cognoscenti of Hartlepool have high standards. They won't look at ANYTHING that isn't served up on a silver service dinner set, the silver preferably having first been mined by African children paid at well below the local minimum wage.
