OP probably explains why Camelot limits uncontrolled access to the balls. The real fix is that Camelot just sits there raking in the dosh, and all they need do to maintain their monopoly is *not* let evil magicians get at the balls.
can you send a automated spaceship into deep space hoping it finds a worm hole/black hole that takes it back into the past. a set location where all its onboard records could reach you tomorrow.
