the tigers and other animals are dwindling.
the oil is running out
the ozone is vanishing.
the amazon is vanishing... the lungs of the planet?
real food is being replaced by synthetics.
antibiotics are no longer working.
wars are everywhere.
weird pestilences are springing up.
finite amounts of everything, all of a sudden. The press keep saying by 2050? we will fall off the cliff.
just enough to take us to 2051.

Apparently about fifty thousand years ago we went through a massive boost in intelligence, with not only changes to the brain, but also the sudden appearance of genes that are not linier.
Report akabula • April 5, 2016 6:54 PM BST
Nowt for us lot to worry about. We'll all be a distant memory by then.

God is good Zorro, give thanks and rejoice.

Most of what you say is done by us, Humans, not God Zorro.

Humans are an incredibly violent species, we kill more of our own species than any other animal on this planet.

Also I don't think we are a half as clever as we think we are myself, we suffer from hubris.

Still the Dinosaurs died out(except birds) so perhaps they made the same mistake, used up all their resources ?
Report rogerthebutler • April 6, 2016 1:36 PM BST
No

There will still be enough resources and crass resilience left in us to take that one last, epic selfie, just as the fingers on our other hand are giving way on the cliff edge.

not sure there was a boost in intelligence. the ice age we are still in.. started to recede and we began to cultivate crops. 15,000 years ago Britain was under three metres of ice.
population exploded from that point. life was pretty level in consumption up to the industrial revolution. Man is using everything up now by multiples.

carl Sagan is dead... i watches cosmos many times over the years. But he does what a lot of bad scientists do. They grind a beautiful fruit down to a pulp and explains the fruit as a collection of chemicals and atoms. the take the magic out of life.

If the soul does not exist, then there is no reason for feelings. Love does not exist. Killing is not wrong. Morality is irrelevant and converting people to robots is the future of mankind.

Again if the soul does not exist there is no reason to hang on to the idea of it. so stop going to chapels/churches for weddings/funerals. no christenings. Stop saying jesus/christ when things go wrong.

there's also people out there that buy - We Buy and Sell Souls – art action by Komar & Melamid and the Nest Group - these guys bought Andy Warhol's soul.
no blasphemy intended after all it doesn't exist? does it?

I don’t see how that follows Zorro. From an evolutionary standpoint our feelings, including love, are a necessary agent for change, adaptation and the perpetuation of the species. Developing feelings has been absolutely necessary for human survival and the development of a functional society. I don’t need to believe in the soul to appreciate that.

As for killing, well, Considering we torture and slaughter well in excess of 100 billion innocent sentient creatures every year the overwhelming majority of humans certainly don’t seem to have any problem on that score. Impossible to reconcile that kind of genocide with any talk of morality. Appreciate morality is subjective but in my mind at least we are not (currently) moral (just) beings. Any suggestion otherwise is risible.

Central to your post is this notion, this demand that humans be considered important. We really aren’t important. Just evolved apes. Biological machines. Freewill is an illusion and completely irreconcilable with the physical world we inhabit and the 4 fundamental forces. Waking up to this simple fact will be see a great advancement in our evolution, the end of egocentricity, vanity and all hatred. Peace out. Happy

I would hope for a better future than the last two posts.

I think it is really a question of choice.

I would suggest we stop exponential population growth we need to look at the possible effects of climate warming.

We need to look more at the idea of peace and accepting each other for what we are.

In evolutionary terms in is only in the last few minutes of our existence that we have really started to use science.

It can give us everything we want, it is within reach. Future societies must be sustainable.

Robots doing everything for us is now possible within a few hundred years. We may even stop ageing.

The need at the moment is to understand ourselves better, just try to make the world a better place for everybody.

There is no need to rush anything, allow change to happen naturally and it will. Stop panicking!

Is it not time to stop reproducing. Call Gods bluff and say we are not prepared to continue with this farce.

Look at it realistically, would it not have been better for everyone if they had never been.

Mabye say to God thats it, we are not sure what happens after we are dead, is there something or nothing, it seems to be too much of a risk really.

nature is brutal. it is not a kind fuzzy lovely thing. peace out. when someone from the first world finds himself/herself in the third world it comes as a shock. people who have crashed into a wilderness find it extremely hard to survive.
the bible says this is a fallen world. Death is a reality in this world. jesus was sent to redeem it. He is god's sacrifice for us. It was not by any action by mankind that we were redeemed. I could go out tomorrow and steal and still be saved. because I accept Christ. But I hopefully won't because I see that god has love for me and others. Stealing would be a  betrayal of his teaching, a step back.
Imagine dying and finding it isn't the end. you find that everyone is immortal and was living in a digital reality (some physics professors believe this is the case). Your creator judges your actions and says everyone fell short... but i sent you a lifeline.... did you grab it? No my pride was such that I knew it all. My world was science, hard fact. cash and pleasure was my gods. My god was what I chased in my lifetime. but it led nowhere. Faith was stupid. It was all fuzzy airy fairy promises of good times.

Blaise Pascal (science) - Men despise religion. They hate it and are afraid it may be true.

In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don't.

There are only two kinds of men: the righteous who think they are sinners and the sinners who think they are righteous.

If you gain, you gain all. If you lose, you lose nothing. Wager then, without hesitation, that He exists.

boss fry? that's your argument - a tv celebrity. dear 007 actor Daniel Craig does god exist.... let me know.
Blaise Pascal ? one of the most brilliant minds ever below...
thought all his life about it.

Well you ignored every point I made in my original post and just made a load of noise so I thought I couldn't be bothered.

Yes, good point... nobody appearing on tv has made a salient point about anything ever. Any argument is completely nullified by a perceived lack of social standing.

its called the boob tube. it got rid of the open university content long ago.

open a book? the one that's been around for two thousand years.(dead sea scrolls - and many international library collections).

the best selling book every year. excluded from booksellers lists because it's a cert to be number one every year in the future too.

don't get your opinion from secondhand sources like mr Fry. read it yourself. the old testement is about law and man. because its about law everybody is flawed, guilty. that's why atheists dip into it and say look here... god told this guy to blast this guy and hang this guy.... so violent. why? He just destroyed a city? it's condemnation under law.
the new testement. you live under law... every man is guilty of something.
the new testement is about grace and god. God gives us Jesus as the solution to law. Grace replaces law. by grace you are saved. by simply accepting jesus(not a religion... not a church or priest)as your master admitting to your sins to him alone. you are saved.

you do not sign up to a sunday club on a hill. sit on a bench and listed to a fat man in a frock telling the same sermon from 1977 every week. Religion is hogwash. you do read the book. Not a serial killer movie with false quotes from the bible.(thank you hollywood)
