only recently realised Amy Winehouse covered quite a few Specials tracks, very good too, especially Monkey Man!

I doubt they'll be anywhere near great these days. Much like most original music, it's gone down the pan. IMO |

I saw them and Madness a few times in small venues before they were famous. My Uncle (18 months older) became friends with a few of them. We went to see them once and were invited to their party thrown by Chysallis after the gig. We walked to the party venue with Jerry Dammers and some Chysallis said we could not go in. Jerry Dammers said if they don't go in, neither do I! They let us in and it was quite a party. There were various famous people in there including Bob Geldof. That was a lot of years ago & I can't recall too much about it. After the party, I left with one of the life size cardboard cut outs of the black & white two tone man, who travelled home with me on the tube! "He" was visible from the street in my bedroom window for some time after!
My Uncle also became mates with Sham 69's Jimmy Pursey and went on tour with them in Germany. We went to see them quite a few times many years ago. A mate of his from Hammersmith, screamed Hammersmith at a gig where they were recording an album, at the top of his voice, and that can be heard on one of their live albums.  ,I also saw the Clash a few times, but one of my fav live gigs was XTC. |
