I think bread clogs up your system and as you say many negative health related issues,it's a pretty unhealthy thing to put in your body, especially white bread. I like my coffee and toast in the mornings with a thick slice of white toast, and most days that is the only bread I have.
The fact is, the vast majority of breads from the big manufacturers are just slight variations, a little coloring here, a sprinkling of seeds there, but it's still the same extremely unhealthy processed bread. Although you could say inspired marketing, much of the ‘brown’ bread you’ll find in the supermarket is simply the same white bread with brown coloring, added back into it. Hardly the healthier choice it’s made out to be. Likewise, ‘wholemeal’ bread with a bit of chemically treated wheat germ added back in, or ‘multigrain’, with a sprinkling of softened grains, hardly makes up for what the main ingredient – refined wheat flour – has gone through. So not really the healthy option ! And having been a baker for over 12 years I do know a bit about it..... |

Genetics : it takes 400 generations minimum to adapt(evolve)
A generation- say 25 years 25 x 400 years = 10,000 years Mankind has been farming for 7000years or so - well under the 10,000 years required to 'evolve' to the new foodsource without complications Just a thought- oh - and beer cannot have been around any longer than 7000 years either (give or take) - but some of us are trying to push evolution along as quickly as possible ![]() Just a thought-- but whilst i'm here: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/126319 |

Giving up wheat, not just bread, got rid of my IBS, arthritis-like pains (I assumed it was arthritis), enabled me to sleep all night every night deeply and feel a lot sharper mentally.
I hope if you have any of those or other ailments, like asthma and skin problems that people say get better with cutting out wheat, that you get the benefit. If it is just bread you’re giving up then personally I doubt anything will improve as it is the ability of the wheat protein to escape the intestines that is alledged to cause all those problems and the cravings. It’s not just the raising of your blood sugar, but what happens in the brain via the wheat protein. It’s your business of course, but I’d remove wheat for a month (no biscuits, cake or anything made with wheat flour, including sausages and chocolate at times) and then, if you are seeing no benefit, start adding back that stuff. I honestly believe something switches in your brain because I went from being like anyone else – loving everything about bread, especially the smell, such that I’d crave it, to being totally indifferent about it. |

Only if you can find a baker who makes his bread with real certified organic ingredients. Or if there is an Organic shop or Whole Foods Shop near you. The wheat that is used to make most bread is heavily sprayed with pesticides and by choosing certified organic products you will avoid exposure to all the nasty stuff. I thinks it's the chemical additives that can wreck your health. Gluten-Free Breads are healthier. The main problem with wheat, in general we probably eat too much of it. And flour can be treated with so many different chemicals, including chemical bleach. With artificial flavorings or coloring and GMOs and all that nonsense, you have got a lot of questionable ingredients ! Most commercially available breads contain one or many genetically modified ingredients. And it's a fact that GMOs have not been tested long term on humans. |

Try Spelt bread. Made with traditional wheat ( non treated). There's an excellent book on the subject of how unhealthy modern day wheat is for us, and is the main reason why people get fat. Even dismisses the ' health ' claims of whole grain wheat, and cereals. Wheat Belly by William Davis. ' .....eating two slices of whole wheat bread can increase blood sugar more than two tablespoons of pure sugar ...' |

There's a massive difference between the bleached, white shyte and wholemeal.
Like sugar, it's the refining that strips the nutrients and provides the poison. imo |

^ and as I've recently discovered, white rice (processed) vs brown rice (natural).

Whole meal bread is better than white bread. But it's still bad for you

Bread was really introduced as a cheap way of filling you up.

I'm rather partial to most of the wholemeal with seeds that's on the market these days.
Toast it well, let it cool, spread some butter (NOT MARG!) and a wee spread of Marmite. Marvellous scenes, imo. |

I only eat the likes of a Tiger loaf nowadays. Never liked ordinary bread.

Anybody with a weak stomach, Indigestion, heartburn etc, should choose white bread over wholemeal bread simply because it's much easier to digest.

Some very good posts. It's quite damning that someone who makes and sells bread for a living says it's really bad for you! Gave up wheat last year or maybe the year before, didn't last, the lure of the bread tempted me back, this time I'm starting with eliminating bread but will slowly weed out other wheat foods rather than all at once, the reason with the bread is I consume way too much of it, it mostly affects my muscles which in turn affects sleep, that's muscle crampness in both legs and arms as well as sluggishness which shouldn't happen considering I go to the gym. Replacing wheat products as I found last time round is difficult, snacked on a lot of cheese and nuts but not much else, just starting snacking on a a jar of olives however
![]() The biggest problem is that if you KNOW that wheat affects your body the way I do, and I know through eliminating it as I never felt fitter or sharper afterwards, is that so much food contains wheat or gluten, I had some cajun chicken today and only realised after it was made using wheat flour. Some people I know seem to eat bread everyday no problem, can't work it out. Maybe it's really killing them inside idk. |

Symptoms you describe are classic wheat related issues. The book I mentioned earlier ,really is worth getting, Very informative , written by a renowned Cardiologist. |

doing a 180 on my previous comment - read up on what happens if you stop eating a certain food. If you stop eating a food completely you may find that reintroducing it into your diet causes problems. the stomach(the friendly gut bacteria) stops making the enzymes it would use to digest that food. digestion slows or stops and you get cramping. so maybe just cut back to every other day.

Thanks Facts, will do.
2 days without bread and I am getting hungry more quickly, imo the fullness that bread gives you also takes away the taste of other foods, at least it seems as you notice the taste more when you are not consuming bread. |
