As someone mentioned no Biblical Hollywood epics shown on tv over Easter, now the word Easter dropped from the packaging on Easter Eggs too.

Weird that, because I was channel hopping and King of Kings was on BBC2. No idea what it was about...

Good Fridays of old used to be a wall to wall Charlton Heston Fest on TV.
You maybe right M D'H, I didn't watch much tv over the weekend, just picked up that comment on another thread. But definitly did notice the Egg Packaging change.

I thought this simply can't be true. Of course somebody must have been canny enough to cover all bases. I've just checked a box left sitting on the kitchen table. Quite a big Dairy Milk Twirl. Plenty of razzle dazzle on the box but no mention of Easter except on the back in very small writing once. Keeps those who object to Easter happy and when people complain they can say of course we mentioned Easter on the packaging.

But then would you want to end up like the poor Glasgow fella who was renowned in his local community for his kindness, tolerance and love as advocated in his branch of Islam who was cut down for wishing the people of this country, a beloved country to him, greetings and salutations on one of our holy days?

I think somebody removed the remote control from his cold dead hands. You should be grateful.

I will concede the wording on my kids' 'chocolate eggs' wasn't what I expected when I went to check.

Why do you think that was Mikael? Careful not to stray in to right wing conspiracy loon territory. Laugh

I'm sure it was to comply with Sharia law.

I've no objection to them removing the word tbh. It's all a load of sh!t ain't it? (Says he with two girls in Catholic school. Poor fkers!)

Yes Charlton went from an All American hero ( playing Moses and Ben Hur ) to an all American Anti-Hero ( with his gun lobby stance ) in a life time.
The power of the media, ehh ?

Of course it is a load of shiit Mikael but then like Christmas it is a long standing part of our culture and history and as such I object on the basis that it is clearly a deliberate policy. Removing the Easter from Easter doesn't happen by accident. You jest about Sharia and of course that isn't the issue but it isn't a million miles away. All cultures but our own seem to be not only encouraged but celebrated. Is it too much to ask that this country which is still overwhelmingly, if weakly, associated with Christianity is allowed to celebrate its own culture and historical special days? Shall our children be denied the wonder we took for granted?

All those beautiful churches in your towns and villages.

This is your heritage, this is part of your culture,'twas your ancestors  built them.
It doesn't matter if you don't believe in religion you can still admire those buildings, admire the men that built them.

The dropping of Easter and Christmas on its own would be bad enough and craven but ye are adapting a new religion.
Ramadan is now being pushed,Islam appears to be the the only religion taught in schools.

Mikael DHaguenet should ask his two daughters what they learn about religion, guarantee they will have learnt about Islam and learnt a load of tosh about it.

Whatever they've learned will make them considerably more educated on the matter than you.

Some beautiful mosques around here. You have to admire the architecture.

I've at least read the Koran and know  what it says.

Facts and Mikael DHaguenet hate their own, love the strange, the exotic.
Neither realise that the strange in this case hate them, consider them infidels.

Its fairly revealing that Mikael DHaguenet sees beauty in recently built mosques but no beauty in all the old churches scattered around Britain.
More love of the strange and hatred of your own.

Egg change is all about commerce. For the last few years, hot cross buns and Cadbury's Creme Eggs are sold all year round, to all-comers. The Easter Egg people want to sell chocolate eggs to non-Christians because they'll make more money that way.

^ this is probably true, and it proves the point in that business recognizes that the word Easter might be enough to stop certain people from buying the egg.
on reflection it may not be true, either way there is something unsettling about it.

They should have Easter when the weather is better too.  These religious nutjobs already make us take 2 of our 8 bank holidays in the middle of p1ssing winter, then they take another 2 in March(this year).  It's all b.ollox, Lets face he didnn't die and rise again 3 days later so lets just scrap it all and have a long weekend in middle of summer.

I've never seen the connection between chocolate and religion. Maybe a chocolate crucifix would help fill the gap.

Yes but why should non-Christians find Easter offensive?

Who are these people who hate Christians so much?

They obviously hate everything about us if that is the case, because our whole society from our customs to our laws are all based on Christian teachings.

If they hate us so much what are they doing here in the first place?

I didn't mean it as abuse.

I've never seen the connection between chocolate and religion. Maybe a chocolate crucifix would help fill the gap.

I've heard numerous explanations for this - all total rubbish. eg. the egg signifies the new life brought about by the resurrection (Plain), the egg is loosely based on the stone that was rolled away (Cry).
This year, our pastor point blank refused to use the 'E' word during sunday service and kept referring to it as 'resurrection day' (Laugh) which is technically correct if a little pedantic! made me chuckle though, I agree, chocolate has nothing to do with the resurrection of Christ whatsoever!

Crippen don't stress about the haters. If you know 2 Timothy 2 & 3 it prepares you for what reaction to expect from the world and the fact that the world proceeds to play it out so accurately should encourage you and offer even more proof of how NAP those texts are! If it's any consolation, I saw a panel show discussing this issue over the weekend and the panel included a muslim who literally couldn't believe that companies would do this. "After all, who's offended by muslims and sikhs celebrating ede, diwali etc." he said. no one, its daft and really, we know its to appease the atheists who are the only ones who would ever dream of even batting an eyelid at this kind of thing.
Spekaing of atheists, I watched Jim al-coholic's show about the universe which was decent. The irony couldn't pass me by though of how, during easter week, he again shows his sheer ignorance by implying the big difference between christians and atheists is what you make of creation. Laugh I tell you all the truth, the difference between christians and atheists is what you make of the resurrection. Now more than ever is the time to remember we are not creationism, neither are we godianity. we are followers of Jesus who died at the hands of pilate, came out of a grave guarded by roman soldiers and then appeared for 40 days to hundreds of people. bizarre? - yes! absurd? - absolutely! but this story is testified to by thousands. so why not look into it? unless you're scared of something that might make you think, why not open your mind to the possibilities? After all, how is any of this more absurd than quantum theory?

That's nothing more than one Muslim trying to deflect the blame away from other Muslims.
Atheists don't need to be appeased by the removal of the word Easter.
All the atheists I've ever known couldn't care less about people following Christianity.

Ramruma nailed it with this.

The Easter Egg people want to sell chocolate eggs to non-Christians because they'll make more money that way.

That includes selling Easter Eggs to many Muslims who can be offended by the sight of Christianity in practise.

I didn't realise it was such an old tradition:

This custom of the Easter egg can be traced to early Christians of Mesopotamia, and from there it spread into Russia and Siberia through the Orthodox Churches, and later into through Europe through the Catholic and Protestant Churches.[7][6][8][9] This Christian use of eggs may have been influenced by practices in "pre-dynastic period in Egypt, as well as amid the early cultures of Mesopotamia and Crete"
