need to be incentivised by monetary reward?

For everyone else, it's job satisfaction, love of the job and a subsidised canteen.

The rich don't need to work in the first place.
So they have to be motivated by extra rewards, as an inducement to make the extra effort required to get things moving.

The poor have to work out of fear of having to manage on even less.
And of course they can be easily replaced if they don't perform.

If you tax the rich too much you demotivate them.
You discourage them from expanding their businesses which is bad for jobs, and in many cases results in lower tax returns.

It's a simple principle.

All true.

I should have used the term "highly paid" instead of or in addition to "rich".

They like to preach to the rest how higher pay isn't a motivating factor.

I remember years and years ago a mate changed jobs.
When I asked him how his new job was his exact words were "Great, it's got a subsidised canteen."
So I suppose for some peep it is a factor nick. Laugh

Some of us think that of the rich Dr Crippen...

Still I would expect the rich to always argue that society performs better if the rich stay rich
It is called self interest!

The rich can only be motivated to work by giving them more money

The poor can only can only be motivated to work by giving them less money

The Greek philosophers were all over this subject, but the modern politican has sold it's soul and encouraged lies in the process.

Money being the route of evil and control Diogenes himself encouraged all to destroy it (and was charged with its destruction himself)

The point is that modern society is lead to believe that ambition is the acceptable face of greed, the more you have the more you want, but ambition isn't a vice and is apolitical. The notion that the well to do are more deserving is an untruth. The reality is that there is very little between the abilities of the vast majority and those that are fortunate to have made money is more down to luck and a degenerate desire to furnish their own short comings as a human.
Capitalism and consumerism is just as Diogenes described as civilisation, them being a fabrication and nothing more.

Speculation is ethereal and just as Dante wrote of the metaphor of hell having a special place reserved for the action and desire to reward capital twice so did Proudhon describe the damage of investment.

The individuals whom value themselves so highly and without merit are the very ones that are stealing from society.

I work enough so I can lead a nice comfortable life. My school teachers called that laziness.

Whenever I speak to career driven people it baffles me how people can have no interests at all outside their jobs

We can have a job that us satisfaction, although not everybody achieves this.

But everything now seem reduced to the desire to make money little else, things like job satisfaction do not seem to matter.

I accept that pure communism did not work and that some Capitalism is needed.

But the extreme sort of Capitalism we are pushing now I do not agree with. We seemed to be trapped in a cycle of material

greed and little else.

Not many think like Diogenes now, although I would not destroy money myself, I need it to gamble with!

You sound a very well adjusted person Zazu.

Money is the greatest of all inventions. Destroy it and destroy freedom...freedom from the overwhelming will of other people.

Personal freedom comes at a cost of those it holds in bondage and was invented to do so.

There is a contrivance at the heart of the matter, that which you refer to as 'the will of others'.
You have to 'make money' or be chewed up in the machinery created by those in power for that very reason....to force the collective into working for assets and commodities that have been claimed in error.
The creation of that very wealth becomes its own double edged sword as more and more find ever more deviant means to take more out than they put back in to the finite economy that we all exist within.

There is an answer, we must stop comparing apples with pears. If we can determine value of the 'lowest' in society then we must do the same in the 'highest' and not defer to erroneous language like 'letting the market decide' when the market is continually corrupted.

How else do you motivate rich people?

You can't threaten them with the sack if they don't perform well like you can with ordinary workers.

If anything it's the other way round, plenty of lower paid folk would chuck their jobs if they could tommorow, and company directors who could easily retire keep on at it.

I didn't work my holidays when I was young for bl**dy job satisfaction it was to earn money, this thread is just plain ridiculous.

The irony is that the greater the take out the less 'work' is actually done.
Rewarding capital simply for owning capital is a perfect example.

Thats what Dante was referring to by 'idle hands'

lfc'S POST BELOW IS QUITE CORRECT:- hang on- stopped caps now :)

accumulate enough money and you have freedom

personally - i'm comfortable- not rich nor wealthy

rather than stay on for another 10 years or so boosting the bank balance/pension fund- i saved like hell for 10 years- paid off the mortgage , funded the pension to the hilt  + stopped work at age 48; drop your ego - its a false god.

I believe it was John Goodman in the film The Gambler who said - get your 'Feck off money' and once you have it you have the freedom to tell others (employers) to Feck Off

Not working on a well funded lifestyle is great; I drive a non-descript useful 11 year old car which I've had 9 years - but can replace it with a new one any time if I want - probably spend £500 a year on clothes - as does the Mrs- travel each year - mostly economy class - eat in nice restaurants and enjoy chateau wine , sports and a little golf  ; today its a long stroll by the sea with mates .
I always assumed I would have to work til I dropped.

If you'r in your  20's Save hard- for a decade- and then stop being greedy and tell em to Feck off .

Lmfao well done being able to retire so early.
I'm afraid a party lifestyle wasted plenty of my ££££
My friend drives in a nice 911. I am the same as you just a standard car I've owned for 10 years.
Will keep it chugging along for a few more still.
He laughs at mine as it's not as posey or fast as his.
Keep telling him they do the same thing.

I remember being told when I was about 14 work hard until you are 40 and you will never have to work again.
It intrigued me and I can remember it clearly. It was the best advice.

The thing you need in order to accumulate money, is money in the first place.

So when you get some hang on to it.
No amount of education or drive will do you any good if you can't hang on to your money.

You don't have to be clever in order to get on, but you do need one thing at the top of your list. And that is to build up your capital.

The rest will look after itself when the opportunity presents itself.

You have to pay to attract the right caliber.
My boss paid consultants a wad of money to prove he should be paid like Bill Gates.
Surprisingly the consultant took the money, and yes, found my boss was seriously underpaid.
