Chris Evans was today forced to apologise 'unreservedly' for a Top Gear stunt that saw Matt LeBlanc doing doughnut wheelspins next to the Cenotaph.
The broadcaster used his BBC Radio 2 show this morning to try to quell mounting anger about Sunday's sequence as filming for the new series of the BBC Two show, which is due to air in May, hit another crisis.
Evans, who took over presenting the show after Clarkson was sacked for hitting a producer, said: 'On behalf of the Top Gear team and Matt I would like to apologise unreservedly for what these images seem to portray.
'There's been some very incendiary comments involved and written alongside these pictures and I completely understand all this furore', but in attempt to distance himself from the stunt he added: 'This isn't a shoot I'm particularly involved in'.
Politicians and a former Army chief quickly condemned the BBC for arranging the 'gravely disrespectful' sequence yards from Britain's main war memorial.
Colonel Richard Kemp, a retired commander of British forces in Afghanistan, said: 'It beggars belief that they were ever allowed to film here. This is a sacred tribute to millions of people who have done far more for their country than [show hosts] Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc ever will.'

Wrong on all counts. (not surprising though Laugh )

The decision to do this 'Top Gear' filming in this part of the capital was misguided and insensitive to say the least.

Extraordinary to see though the UK media have given it such a profile. The story below, a sordid, revolting and revealing affair, again taking place amongst the solemn War Memorials was all but covered up by the liberal media. It certainly wasn't given any prominence amongst the TV news bulletins.  The 'Top Gear' film is a piece of nonsense in comparison.

Absolutely atrocious and, as you say, this latest stunt whilst distasteful comes nowhere near that for insulting our war dead.
Not only the media though. I remember someone being jailed for placing a pigs head on the steps of a mosque when, in the same week, a muslim was only fined £50 for burning poppies.
Report wildmanfromborneo • March 14, 2016 5:17 PM GMT
Great post.

What this ageing American actor did was wrong but nothing like what Muslims do when they are around war memorials.
Poppy burning, trampling on wreaths are regular occurances, not a whimper from the press.

Laurie Penny thinks its okay to deface war memorials and only Katie Hopkins calls her out on it.

Don't worry about some behaving badly near war memorials worry about the ones that would tear them down given a chance.

Perhaps the war dead 'looking down' would've preferred the roar of an engine doing spectacular doughnuts.... opposed the usual yearly event of the old guard marching to sound of Colonel Bogey.

Is this Le Blanc chappie a Muslim?

Keep on defending.

Your pal Facts is a defender of poppy burning, you probably see no problem with bearded gentlemen trampling on wreaths chanting British soldiers go to hell in front of these war memorials.
See no problem with these same gentlemen claiming benefits for themselves and their multiple wives.
See no problem with your schools being infiltrated.
See no problems with Sharia courts.
See no problems with segregated meetings.
See no problem with Halal meat becoming the norm.

There is a takeover taking place and some of ye can't see it.

I'm with you on all those points and they should be cracked down on , also we could begin kicking out all the illegal immigrants with an increased Border Agency force.

Meanwhile hundreds of  ex servicemen are living on the streets and noone bats an eyelid. That's not disrespectful at all.

They are British so don't count.

Look at all the do gooders looking after criminals in Calais, providing bikes and legal advice.
If your government had any guts those traitors would be arrested on their return from Calais, guarantee these people don't give a damn about the ordinary Brit and doesn't live near them.

When some of the criminals in Calais get to Britain by force they will jump the housing queue, have their medical needs catered for while the men and women who paid into the system look helplessly on.
