"A complete waste of time, talent and electricity" (John Peel on Emerson, Lake & Palmer's debut concert)
It's a shame about ELP because actually Keith Emerson is a nice bloke, a genuinely pleasant human being. I remember when they first played the Festival Hall, I was surrounded by a lot of dickheads in leather trousers who thought it was wonderful. I remember one berk in front of me talking to some smart Hampstead friends, saying "Oh, man, my mind's completely blown, it's really blown... - John Peel again

I was walking along a main road in the 1980s when I spotted a cassette someone had chucked in the gutter, it was ELP Trilogy album. I took it home and fixed the tape and that was my introduction to ELP. The song that stood out for me was From the Beginning, I'm still very fond of that song and Greg Lake sings it even better now than he did then imo. Here's the original:

The Nice had a hit single which involved Emerson inflicting GBH on 'America' from West Side Story.
They got banned from the Royal Albert Hall after Emerson set fire to the US flag while performing the piece.

I agree with the correct definition :-' .......Causing strong feelings of sadness usually because someone has died in a way that seems very shocking, unfair, etc.....'
You're a rocker - for that I give you full respect
However, some of the stuf you come out with should be re-read, afore posting.
IMHO
What's politics got to do with it ? Everything! You're a rocker - for that I give you full respect However, some of the stuf you come out with should be re-read, afore posting.IMHO
Very sad news. Liked The Nice a lot; saw them at the Marquee, and I think the Lyceum. Think their first album was the first appearance of clingfilm on a record sleeve. Despite the pseudo classical stuff they did some really good covers of songs of others. Tim Hardin, Dylan etc.
Saw ELP at the Big Apple (Regent) in Brighton - Tedious, self-indulgent claptrap in the main; still people seemed to like them

Nearly RL!!. The 1970 Five Bridges Suite album did contain a track based on the Intermezzo from Sibelius' Karelia Suite. This Sibelius piece WAS used for the This Week programme, but it was not the Nice's version, just a standard orchestral version.

Bowie, Sir George Martin and now Keith Emerson, all sadly lost and gone. Major talents during their years of creativity, among the very peak of their peers.
Another slab of British cultural brilliance gone forever, recognised and revered throughout the sane world.
Still, what we have to remember is that in their place we are importing a vibrant, enriching and alternative culture which want to rape your white sexually-underaged daughter, subjugate your female partner, and behead anyone who doesn't adapt to their ways. And I'm sure we all give daily prayers of thanks to our badly-overstretched NHS Maternity Wards for safely delivering the next generation of Straight 'A' Terrorists.
It's not exactly 'Ziggy Stardust' or 'Tarkus', but there is at least one deluded enthusiastic fan on here who will always (pretend to) offer it a home.
