It used to be pretty much standard that it was 2L or 1L. Now AFAIK they've got 1.75L, 1.5L, 1.25L and it appears to continue to make the sale at the chosen price point. Watch for smaller containers at the same price.

Also they often sell at 2 bottles for £2 and so on, mix and match, if diet is a different price to sugar that wont work, so will diet buyers subsidise the sugar buyers?

JC - different sizes were introduced because they make different prices available to different supermarket groups. Otherwise everyone demanded the same deals & pricing as their competitors. ie, when you did a deal with Tesco, it meant that ASDA , Sainsburys, Morrisons and so on would demand it too. Varying the pack size by grocer meant deals & pricing wouldn't be comparable. I know, I worked on it for two years. Millions were spent on setting up new manufacturing lines.
