Isis document leak reportedly reveals identities of 22,000 recruits

Documents obtained by German intelligence thought to contain names of 16 Britons, in information stolen in Syria by fighter disillusioned with Islamic State

The documents allegedly contain details of 16 British fighters, four from the US and six from Canada, as well as recruits from France and Germany.

Wednesday 9 March 2016 23.50 GMT Last modified on Thursday 10 March 2016 07.35 GMT

More than a dozen Britons and a handful of Americans are among Islamic State fighters reportedly named in a cache of 22,000 documents obtained by German intelligence.

Britons identified in the documents so far had previously been revealed to the public and are dead, killed in US-led strikes, or their whereabouts unknown. Sixteen Britons are thought to be on the list, among them Junaid Hussain and Reyaad Khan.

The documents, thought to be from a border crossing into Syria, are questionnaires of each would-be recruit. There are 23 questions, including names, date and place of birth, hometown, telephone number, education and blood type.

Germany’s interior minister, Thomas de Maizière, confirmed the documents were real and they would facilitate “speedier, clearer investigations and stricter prison sentences” for those returning from Syria and Iraq. De Maizière said the materials help clarify “the underlying structures of this terrorist organisation”.

A spokesperson for the BKA, the German federal police, confirmed that the agency was in possession of the cache of documents, adding that experts determined their authenticity. German officials did not specify how the agency had got the documents, nor how many names had been found within them.

German media reported that the questionnaire asked would-be Isis recruits about any previous experience they had in jihad and whether they were prepared to be suicide bombers.

The existence of the documents was revealed by the Munich-based Süddeutsche Zeitung paper and German broadcasters WDR and NDR on Monday evening. Zaman al-Wasl, a pro-opposition Syrian news website, published examples of the questionnaires on Tuesday.

Sky News claimed on Tuesday that it too has obtained copies of what appeared to be the same documents, containing about 22,000 names. It said the they were passed on a memory stick stolen from Isis internal security police by a former Free Syrian Army convert who later became disillusioned with Isis.

The documents held by the German authorities seem to have been collected at the end of 2013. Even the lowest estimate of the numbers that crossed the border in that period indicates the sheer scale of volunteers to Isis. The documents will be useful to intelligence agencies in confirming names and details of people suspected of joining Isis. However, it was reported that there are names not previously known to the intelligence services.

Zaman al-Wasl reported that personal details of 1,736 fighters from 40 countries had been revealed – a quarter were Saudis and the rest predominantly Tunisian, Moroccan and Egyptian.

The documents, written in Arabic and stamped with logos used by Isis, allegedly contain details of 16 British fighters, four from the US and six from Canada, as well as recruits from France and Germany.

Intelligence agencies have estimated that about 700 Britons have joined Isis.

You may support ISIS but most don't.

There is however a tacit support of ISIS on the Left,it springs from a hatred of your own country.
This hatred manifests itself in always being on the side of Britains enemies.
Its why Calais is teeming with treasonous Brits helping the law breakers over there.

Its how Rotherham happened.
Its why feminists never utter a word about FGM,honour killings or stoning to death of adulterous women.
Its why excuses like " sexual emergency " are accepted.

Everyone is kowtowed, all afraid to say what we know to be true.

Islam is a barbaric religion that has no place in a Western democracy.

Remind us again of how Russia is the enemy? From what I remember of my history lessons in school, the west ( europeans ) have tried and failed to 'invade' Russia from Nepoleons time to Hitlers.

I have some sympathy for Ukraine because they are caught in a war of power politics between the US and Russia.

Gorbachov should never have allowed the break up of the Soviet Union, although he was honour bound to stop supporting

communist regimes in Eastern European countries. I think Gorbachov betrayed Russia, all the Russians really wanted was a bit more capitalism

which he should have allowed, he did. But he went too far after that.

NO .....WRONG !

We (Nato forces) should have attacked Assad and told Russia to F*ck Off !

250,000 people have died because we did nothing.

We could also have attacked Daesh (Isis) and finished the job.

The main reason we did nothing is because a load of lefty anti-whatever the West does merchants would have been up in arms at us overtly interfering in another Middle-Eastern country so soon after the Iraq shambles. The same lefty mob who turned on their great white hope, Blair.

Because left wingers, who are now saying we should have intervened in Syria, would have been the first to have taken to the streets in numbers to protest against any action if we had.

They tend to be prodigiously endowed with the gift of hindsight and willing to twist any scenario into one which would blame the West for the consequences of any action or inaction, depending on which decision had actually been made with all available information to hand at the time.

I see...well I dont.
I see collusion between our two parties over the Middle East.

My objection is to all of Western interference in the Middle East starting at the first Gulf war.....looking at the cumulative

death toll I see this as an atrocity.

How we end this civil war in Syria well that is a tricky one?...but Europe are are paying for this, Muslim Refugees from Syria are pouring into Europe.

Why our government and France should have said to the United States in the first place , you want to sort out the Middle East, you do it on your own, we stay neutral. They have a big enough army for it, they never needed us.

I watched an old program on the Suez crisis the other week. The United States told this country and France to get out of the Middle East and stay out.

How come none of the refugees are heading towards Russia? Are they scared of the welcome they will no doubt have got from the socialist nirvana?

There's a couple of conundrums for starters.

I would not go that far Clousea, but it was not Russia who started all this interference in the Middle East was it, that was us?????????????????

In fact all Russia are doing is potecting their own interest. They make a lot of money out of Assad it is a stratgically important

to them to support Assad that is all.

The refugees won't head for Russia as they see the West as richer. The Russian people have also seen the terrible problems the West has had

dealing with Muslems, which the West has already allowed in, dont expect them to make the same mistake. Also most of the refugees are

SUNNI muslims, Russia is supporting the SHIAS. There are aleady lots of Muslims in the West, who will support them.
