I'm looking at getting a evohome system installed and was looking for opinions on how well it works.

Thanks facts.

The system looks interesting - especially for someone like me who is at home alone all day, mostly in my office.

The only thing that worries me a little bit is the mention of the valves making a bit of noise when they come on in the morning.

Do an accurate assessment of your heating costs, take the claimed savings and halve them (they will be overstated and you won't have the consistent attention to detail required to make the best of the various settings). Then take the capital cost of the purchase and spread it over five years (it may not break down, but you will probably move anyway). Then do the sums!   When you've done that, forget it!!, beef up your roof insulations and draught strip anything that needs it. Hth.

I know nothing about this subject but my friend who teaches Heating and Ventilation at my local college does.

To be honest, I am much more interested in the convenience of being able to heat different rooms to different temperatures, than saving money. Controlling the whole house's heating from a single thermostat in one room doesn't seem that sensible in today's age.

As an example, we have a bedroom at the top of the house (loft room) that is always too warm, wheras the conservatory is always too cold. This sort of system could go some way to equalising that. Also, during the day, I can heat just my office and have the rest of the house warm up at 4pm before the rest of the family get home.
