They - and you the audience - were absorbed in the absolute horror to experience preparation for what they had been told - to be gassed inside a shower room.
So their hair is shorn, they are stripped naked and herded like cattle into a shed. The doors slam, the lights are extinguished. The horror of knowing you were about to die a horrible death.

And then water comes out of the shower heads - not gas, but water. This time it was a shower, it was just a shower. For them,just for them.

A very fine film indeed. A bit of trivia, Tim Roth lived three doors from me in Dulwich and I used to fleece him of his pocket money on a regular basis playing three card brag. He was a very good chap.
