Spent nigh on 1500 with uk dentist over 18 months, work was appalling, having it all redone in Spain,an injection for a filling in Spain is far far better than over here, there is no numbness after the work, you can eat drink straightaway, they use an ointment before the injection, 1 inspection,2 xrays and 2 fillings plus mouthwash £53, surgery's spotless with all the up to date gear

@ lfc I got referred by my dentist to a clinic to extract an infected crown.  I got charged £4. Hardly a kings ransom.

anything paid to your dentist for previous work to tooth?

I think the max is £200 for treatment - daffodil obv went private.  Can't remember what I paid the time I got referred.  Most recently I had a root filling and a replacement crown - think that was £150ish.

I neglected my teeth when I was younger and had crowns put in, so they are gradually failing.  I suppose its implants in due course, but that isn't on the nhs.

Dentists, Vets and Undertakers

lol £150 is nothing for medical treatment.  Fack knows how much it would cost in the USA.

Root canal treatment takes as long as it takes to get a haircut and the barber only charges a tenner Crazy

Vets and Undertakers are worse.

£50 to look at the dog and another £50 a pill.

Undertakers, over 5000 for an average funeral. A disgrace.

Anybody that spends over 2k on dental treatment are either vain or has too much money.

How's the cost unbelievable? The dentist spent 7 years in uni ffs

Vets...they top their high school classes then spend forever in uni as well

Don't know about funerals but I'm sure someone would launch a low-cost no frills funeral if it could be done for peanuts

I'd guarantee you would have plenty of fillings if you had gone to the dentist regularly over the years.
I wonder how many fillings that most people have were necessary for their teeth rather than necessary to support the dentist's income?

Few people ever get a second opinion after a dentist has suggested they need fillings.
I did on one occasion and I shocked when realised what one dentist was up to.

Its 1600 Euro for a crown in Ireland.

Its no wonder they are battering the doors down to get in to Britain.

My dentist recently retired on my last check up he said you will probably need a filling next time you have a very tiny hole in one of your back teeth, six months later new dentist i dont mention a thing, guess what all fine not a mention of the hole. It does make you wonder.

I know for a fact that the dentist in my story invented work.

When talking to people and they mention they were patients of his, I usually say. ''I bet you've got a lot of fillings.''

They always say something like ''well I have actually.''

He must have put in thousands of needless fillings over the years.

I bet the figures for dental health in the area that he covered showed a marked improvement when he retired.

Where fillings are concerned. I'd advise anyone who's been told they need them to get a second opinion.

They might be surprised at the result.

There is something incredibly sexy when a female Spanish dentist says to you "I am just going to drill you a little bit" she got my attention straightaway.
