Got three empty large pots 18 inch diameter, want a plant that grows 2/3 feet tall, that will grow in part sun/shade.

Azalea. It's an evergreen perennial with gorgeous flowers that doesn't mind a bit of shade.
Bay (Laurus nobilis). Evergreen and the leaves can be used as a flavouring in soups and stews.

"Cordyline" are very attractive, when planted in amongst other bedding plants, but they have a secret!

They can grow to a great height and look very tropical.

I have two here, and both succumbed to sub zero temperatures, and deceased themselves.

Pulled them out and for some reason they stink horrible.

The bonus is that they can grow back and with more "shoots"!

The one near the house looks fantastic as it has three "shoots" and is about 3'00" max which is just right.

The other one is now growing as two "shoots" and is about 6'00" tall.

Not bad value from a small feature plant for a couple of quid or so.
