If Britain comes out of the EU we will be able to fulfil our obligation to further develop the Common Wealth into an economic trading organisation.
I don’t know what Winston Churchill had to sacrifice in order to get the Americans to enter the Second World War, but I strongly suspect our abandonment of our former colonies and our eventual entry to the Common market had a lot to do with it.
I honestly believe that the world would have been a much better place today if we had made the Common wealth into the sound economic organisation it should have always been. I also feel that most of the problems we face today in regards to terrorism also would not exist.

The commonwealth comprises 53 countries with a GDP of 11.3 trillion, representing 18.6% of the worlds products and nearly 3 billion people.
Yet we prefer to trade with 28 EU member states at a cost of £55 million a day?
The EU is an out of date dinosaur, The commonwealth could be the future.

He didn't need to offer anything macarony. Pearl Harbour brought them into the war. He was a staunch believer in Empire and still saw Britain having a major role to play in the world stage. His comments about Europe was for the benefit of them. He was at heart a 19th century imperialist.

On the substantive issue of course we should be turning to the Commonwealth and the rest of the world.

I disagree EO.  Pearl Harbour was the tool Roosevelt used to convince the American public to support Americas entry into WW2., Roosevelt still exalted an heavy toll for Americas involvement in the war, including the dismantling of the British Empire and any real economic pact between the former members.
Let’s hope that if we somehow manage to free ourselves from the EU, we can build the Common Wealth into the world’s premiere economic trading zone.

I think many people forget that EU was a desperate necessity for the USA also. It was mentioned in congress as early as 1947 that it needed to happen as a possible dam to the expansion of communism. Jean Monnet, who the EU like to claim was the founding father, was financed by the USA as were the original governing bodies. That is why the Imam Obama is coming to put his penny in, the USA are terrified of the break up of the EU as they believe it will benefit Russia.
