It's the round before the final. You have two finalists in a soccer tournament so there are two semi-finals. There are five finalists in Mastermind so you have five semi-finals.

Most these days seem to be rubbish that no-one would be interested in. I watch on playback so I can fast forward through those. Not particularly interested in what they call each round, it's just a weekly quiz from which an overall winner eventually emerges. |

In the first round the girl got all her.s correct, then a bloke got a couple wrong and ended up with 3 more points than her. |

The questions are padded out so they take approximately the same time to read out. It's therefore probable that the bloke wasted less time answering so got asked a few extra in the time allowed.
