I remember Norton, it was worse than a virus and as hard to get rid of.
In the early years everybody who was suckered into buying it had to format their hard drive after a while to get their computer to work gain. I got it free with some other software I put in. Any security system that takes over your computer will cause you trouble, and at best will only slow everything down. Avoid like the plague. All I use is AVG Free and I even disable the browser toolbar on that. I run SuperAntiSpyware free edition occasionally. |

This article reviews free AV software and recommends Avast over AVG - however there doesn't seem to be much between them.
http://www.alphr.com/security/6745/best-free-antivirus-of-2016-this-is-the-best-free-internet-security-software-you-can Most articles on paid-for software always seem to rate Kaspersky highly. It is worth checking with your bank to see if they offer free security software to customers (for example Barclays offer a 3 PC license of Kaspersky free to customers). As previous posters have said, most people can happily get by using free software - HOWEVER, if you are the sort of person who is likely to visit "certain" types of websites (porn, P2P etc.) then you would be foolish not to pay a few quid for the extra protection that paid-for AV software offers. Having said that I am sure that doesn't apply to anyone on here ![]() |
