I'm going to Vegas in a month or so and will be playing lots of poker. I intend to play mostly cash, but may enter a tournament or two.

As I understand it, UK residents are exempt from tax on winnings. The problem is that I don't really live in the UK. I'll have my UK passport with me (that shows I spend most of my life in Colombia) and a rather poor proof of UK address: a letter from my Standard Life pension fund which I paid into for a couple of years, sent to me at my mum's address.

Would this be enough proof if I won, say, $10k in a tournament (I understand that 5k is the threshold for tax woes)? What about a big win at the cash tables, or several winning sessions adding up to over 5k?

Look up The Salvation Army's or "Shelters" address in your Relatives town, use that.
