I seriously hope you are not condoning the burning of fossil fuels that will kill mother earth in months if not weeks

perhaps in twenty or thirty years when science and technology has released us from the carbon/nuclear tyranny used to justify heating, internet, enlightened travel,  and optimal nutrition you will look back on your greedy self interest and beg our forgiveness for your evil destruction of mother earth,if you are so fortunate and deserving to live so long

I wouldn't call myself a Tory lover. I voted UKIP last May..

Firstly I know poverty, having seen it in various African countries and the Far East. I did various charity work there, and on their behalf for 20 years or so.

What this lady describes is not poverty. She's struggling I grant you but I'm VERY uncomfortable with the 'P' word being used in the UK.

I'm a numbers man. What isn't clear is how much money the family get through income and benefits. She touches on tax credits but doesn't exactly say how much. Also child benefit, housing benefit, etc etc.

I'd like to know the exact amount she has to live on. It's probably over 20 grand and I assume she has a  3 or 4 bed house that is clearly a bit rough and in need of repair.

She and her husband have 4 kids. Why so many? She justifies it but I think it's pretty daft these days.

I agree she's hard up - so where are the extended family to step in and assist with food and heating? She seems to expect more from govt and other ortganisations like foodbanks. I ask again, where are the extended family in all this?

Her attack on Oliver is quite frankly embarrassing. She feels offended that his menu did not meet her financial budget??

I have every sympathy for her health issue and hope she continues to improve.

What they call poverty these days is nothing like what poverty used to mean.

Living in poverty meant walking about with holes in your shoes with cardboard in the bottoms.
Wearing threadbare clothes that someone had given you and never getting enough to eat.
Always cold in the winter because you couldn't afford any heating.

That's poverty.

Modern poverty is very different and quite acceptable.

That's why so many people these days choose to live in poverty, and will happily accept a life of poverty in exchange for not having to work.

People who claim they're living in poverty these days, are in fact living better than people who were not living in poverty when the word meant something.

Quite.

As this lady has a computer and the internet she could google Hooverville and have a look at poverty 1930s style.

I have read it all. An interesting read and very well written.

I have also looked at the Facebook and Amazon links.

I predict that this lady won't be in poverty for very much longer.

I wish her well.

Why blame the Government?

I know it's easy and we all do it but look at the facts here.

Under a Labour or Con govt this lady gets:

1)Free education for her 4 kids

2) Child Benefit

3) Tax credits

4) Possibly Housing Benefit + Council Tax benefit

5) Free health care (she has received a lot of care sadly due to her problems)

6) Free school meals for her youngest (a Liberal policy in the coalition govt)

Why do we always blame the govt??????

I watched an episode of Benefits street where some of the poorest smoked and drank.
Possible cure there somewhere?

Scroungers demanding their rights as bone idle citizens.
