What he described did not seem to be vote rigging but more block voting by large expat communities, of whom there are an awful lot where countries have been broken up, as in the former USSR and Yugoslavia -- at least that is what I took from his reference to diaspora.

It was government backed vote rigging and nothing to do with ex-pats.

what is the world coming to when a pointless talent show that nobody ever took seriously turns out to be prone to the tedious vicissitudes of petty political interests which to most clear thinking individuals turn out to be completely uninteresting.

It was Government backed vote rigging,
And the Ex-Soviet countries that did Not tow the line for Russia,
even after independence 1991, would suffer, one way or another Whoops

A worrying thought is if we leave the European Union then votes in the ESC  could possibly suffer from a UK point of view Plain

not sure if any here are old enough to remember the sinking of atlantis and the failure of the uk to win the atlantis song contest (for thousands of years!!!) and the horrific consequences this has had on promising sports and music talents (for thousands of years!!!) who have otherwise gone on to be useless failures of a patronising welfare state.
