What happens when  you turn over Europe's immigration policy to people traffickers and then forget about imposing the rule of law.

Quite. Sangatte closing and us taking a load was supposed to put an end to these shennanigans. Our leaders are idiots.

Are the French being intentionally obtuse?

Can't understand how it can be in their intrests for so much disruption to trade and tourism.
Report Just Checking • January 24, 2016 2:49 PM GMT
What can france do, they've a socialist prime minister. Deport them? He won't do that. And where to anyway? Dump them on the italian border?

If the EU wanted to be internally borderless it needed to protect it's external border, that's so obvious, and they've not done that, they've done the opposite, kept it down and issued invitations, in the internet age. And we have tools like Tim Farron saying that the problem is that we need to make the routes they come along safer. The LDs deserve to get totally wiped out if they keep that tw*t as leader.

The French - along with the Germans - are the two powerhouses of European Union and should be leading the (pan European) way in dealing with the refugee crisis, if they are not prepared to back Britain's unilateral response of attempting to deal with this issue at source or first-country-of-arrival.

Instead they just open up their borders and / or tolerate mass law-breaking within their borders.

That's not obtuse.

Dunno what it is - cowardly and supine for starters.

When you just think about it for a minute, the EU seems run by mad people, what they are doing is madness.
They want a united states of europe? Well there is a united states of america, and even the most left wing president they've had wouldn't be mad and stupid enouh to throw open their borders the way the EU have done, and if did, he'd be grassy knolled.

If this 'Jungle' was in Dover  we would clear it and process the people. Such action seems beyond the French.

It's incredible the migrants don't want to stay in France.. Cheaper property, better food, weather etc. Must be our benefit system..

Our leaders are idiots.

Quite.

This includes, of course, the 'leader' that has spent the weekend in Calais swooning over and giving encouragement to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, whose motives are highly questionable on all available evidence.
Report Injera • January 24, 2016 3:49 PM GMT
Anyone else notice the language used to describe the migrants' criminality last night?

According to the BEEB and others they up to 150 'boarded' a ferry.

I thought one boards when one has a ticket! I would call these rascals stowaways if I was being kind and violent invaders if I was telling the truth.

Exasctly EO. IT's as stupid as the EU in effect saying "anyone who wants to come can" then wringing their hands at how awful it is when people die in boats coming from Turkey (a safe country) as a result of this offer. Short of sending large liners over there to ferry them all across (which would be even more insane) you have to say these deaths are on Merkels hads, as will be the ones when the nutters in their midst go on the rampage, which they will.

I often can believe all this is happening and Merkel etc are supposedly intelligent, it's so insane.

Calais Migrant Jungle

So long as we keep allowing people to enter the UK and Europe on the whole people will continue to come. The answer is obvious do not allow them residency/asylum. This might seem harsh but look at what we have now, huge problems with everything from accommodation to integration and cultural differences, from a European point of view but this pales into insignificance compared to the damage done to the countries that are losing their life force, their young, their wealthy, their educated.
Mo wonder we still have a third world when rich countries continue to entice the cream of poor countries people.

In the late 1940s the world took a bold move and passed laws to protect refugees. That was in the 40s times have changed it is time to revisit those laws and either scrap or amend them to help us face the modern challenge of global migration.

The UK has about 100000 homeless children so the left reckon another
few thousand wont make much difference and they get to feel better.

As a former LD voter I can assure you they will. He should be a preacher in the Salvation Army not running a political party.

I agree foinavon. If you are a normal down the centre voter, Labour are now un-votable, the tories might worry you or p*ss you off for whatever reasons, and the LDs, rather than try to keep to the centre, drift off to the left as well with that moist eyed limp dishrag Farron.

Card carrying religious fundamentalist too.
I am left with no choice other than to vote Tory, something I've never done before. Can't vote for either the looney Left or the Looney Right (Sorry Burton).

Corbyn will be gone.....he's 68....I don't think his personality can cope with the pressure
Report mememe • January 25, 2016 3:31 AM GMT
MichaelFoot was 97 when he became leader ... and his jacket was even older.

Neil Pi11ock was 12 (mental age) when he became leader

and they both did very well (for the Conservatives).

No Jizzer Corbyn will be around for a long time yet, leading the Labour Party.

Street cred is sky high since his "menage a deux" with Diane A, and she became a Shadow Minister based on ability (overseas aid I think).

No, Jizzer is an asset.
