180 billion over how many years?

18 billion over how many years?

When it comes to spending on the NHS political parties will make it up anyway. They're like poker players on acid:

"We'll spend 18 billion a year on the NHS!"

"Well we'll spend 18 billion and give the doctors hand jobs every week!"

Right - the gloves are off! We'll spend 18 billion a year, give the doctors hand jobs AND goody bags stuffed with crystal meth!"

The NHS is of course, a political sacred cow, which no one dare question and all doctors and nurses are saints, just by the mere fact of them being doctors and nurses in the NHS

The NHS can same a lot of its existing budget by not being the International Health Service.

It can also do the same by not throwing away millions of pounds of unused pills and other supplies such as soap, surgical gloves, scissors etc.

Where does he get 180 billion from?

I'm against Trident, because why pay for something that we don't control?

It's controlled by the Americans.

We couldn't launch it without their say so.

We're in NATO so we only want it to keep them happy.
To show them that we're making a contribution.

"Where does he get 180 billion from?"
CND. And it's over like 50 years or something, so it's a broken down as a relatively small part of the defence budget.
Anti-trident hand wringers like to use this big figure though, when its' actually spread over say half a century.

"I'm against Trident, because why pay for something that we don't control?

I keep hearing people, predominantly lefties, say this as a fact, when they've got this information from other people  saying it.

Give me one authorative piece of evidence of this, as it appears to be a myth. When I looked this up a while ago, all I got was people who actually know saying this is bollocks.

That bell end "Owen Jones" was saying the "we don't control it" thing on the TV just this week.
If a spectacular tw*t like that says something, it normally means it's wrong.

Michael Portillo was talking about it on This Week.
He's hardly a leftie.

That is the reason he gave for not keeping it.

The system is operationally independent, we could use them tonight if we wanted.
The missiles (not warheads which are ours) are maintained by a US company, so long term if they pulled that we'd be in trouble. But that is completely different to people saying we need their permission, we don't.

180 billions spent in the NHS ... wow, that means we could

Employ 10,000 middle managers  and

Employ 2,000 senior executives  and

Commission another huge IT Project and

Employ 10 teams of external management consultants and

Contract with 1000 private sector resource suppliers

It would still leave sufficient funding to employ 5 extra doctors and 10 nurses.

OK, well 3 doctors.

How many NHS lightbulbs could we have changed for £100s a go, due to the insane PFI contracts Labour signed off?

Just think how many NHS translators that Trident money would pay for, to enable all NHS documents to be printed in any language bar English.

Ask a GP what they treat. Spend most of their day treating old people who should be dead, depressed people and fat people.

Could half the nhs budget and have a better service if I was in charge for a few weeks Cool

How come he wasn't blaming the bankers?  That's his usually rabble rousing answer to any question.

Btw, the NHS is a bottomless pit.

It's hard to keep a nation healthy when a large number don't give a monkey's about their health and with more arriving every day.

seems crazy to spend billions as the main deterrent to islamic states when you can simply give billions to your own islamic state beneficiaries.

Absolutely right - my thoughts exactly.
"Btw, the NHS is a bottomless pit" ....made worse by totally uncontrolled immigration.
