Scientists at the University of British Columbia have found that rats -- trained to gamble for sugary treats in a 'rat casino' -- will take much greater risks than normal if their casino is equipped with bright lights and music .The rats had learned to avoid the riskiest bets under normal circumstances, but associate professor Catharine Winstanley said that although "it didn't seem like adding lights and sound would have much of an impact... when we ran the study, the effect was enormous."
Significantly for the treatment of gambling addiction in humans, giving the rats Dopamine D3 receptors appears to prevent them from being beguiled by the bright lights of Rat Vegas. . http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/01/160120111517.htm
