I wouldn't want everybody to rest in peace when they die. If somebody died who I didn't like I would want them to rest in loud noise and the more I didn't like them the louder the noise.

Most people will never have had Influenza. It isn't much fun, and probably ruined my education!
In all my short years I've had it just three times.
First time was when I started at G*****r school, and I missed the essential first three weeks, where people were befriending, and basics of subjects were being taught.
When I finally got there I hadn't a clue what was going on!
Second time was when I met the beautiful person who was going to become my wife.
Christmas eve and I was besotted! Instantly struck down with this flue, and no communication, no mobiles, and we weren't even on the phone!
Two weeks of the hideous disease, and finally got back into things, and was struck down again!
Won't bore you with the third time!
Who on here has genuinely had the real flue?

Three times also, body aches so hard you can't stay still, even a soft touch on your arm hurts. as you said, very different to the common cold - saying that, I am sure quite a few on here have had worse.

I had flu at the start of December 2009. It was awful. I was done for about 3 weeks and at the height of it the doctor came out in the middle of the night as I was struggling to breathe due to the lung congestion. The doc made me sleep upright which helped a lot. But for three weeks I felt like I was on my way out, it was so awful. Only just recovered for Christmas.
So I always think that around 90-95% of people who claim they have flu have nothing more than a very heavy cold and bronchitis.
Luckily now, due to my previous medical conditions, I am eligible for the jab and haven't had it since. Proper flu is much rarer than people think.

Sorry to hear about that guys sounds nasty, I've been lucky (touch-wood) never had the real flue. Just heard on the news that two people are being treated in hospital after contracting swine flu in North Lanarkshire.

Most people have had Flu, its just what strain or subtype you have contracted; How many known strains of the flu are there? Either in total, or of each of Type A,B, and/or C. "Strain" isn't really a formal, hard-edged description. It's used to describe influenza viruses that are antigenically different, but that's a fuzzy boundary at best, and isn't testable for the vast majority of different influenza viruses.
A more clear way to differentiate flu viruses is their subtype. This is defined by the hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) proteins on their surface, because these are the dominant proteins in the immune response to flu. There are 17 known HA subtypes and 10 known NA types. If they combine freely, then, there could be up to 170 different subtypes.

Not great Hank. Had some worrying 24 hour ECG test results recently. My heart failure has got to the point where every time I make an effort to do something, it goes out of rhythm and I go very faint.
They have upped my meds and will see how I go over the next 4 weeks, but the consultant made it clear that I will probably be on the heart transplant list by the end of the year. Up to now, I've had a bit of a blasé attitude towards it, but once you get to this point where it's becoming a distinct reality in the near future, you start to crap yourself somewhat. My mums struggling with it. I suppose it must be awful to see your children have to face this in life.
