Do they do exams in being a promising footballer?
Report treetop • January 6, 2016 8:37 PM GMT
Of course not, otherwise we have to accomodate many other options, jews, hindus, buddhists and druids offspring. There coemsa time when we have to get on with it,even Islam allows for extenuating circumstances such as travelling, illness, etc so parents should allow their children to abstain from fasting whilst studying and taking exams.

I wonder what holidays druids get?

We shall probably never find out ron,the de facto response from our establishment is now deceit and disdain for the general public.

I think it is reasonable that we tolerate all religions

However we are traditionally a Christian country so this must always take precedence in an easy way

we have no need to burn people at the stake any more

I allow people to object to things on religious grounds, but only Christian beliefs
Report ebulGery • January 6, 2016 9:08 PM GMT
People who come to this country and we allow to stay must be deemed to have made a commitment to our way of life

and this should apply to their descendants as well in my opinion.

We should be a tolerant society not a stupid one

I have no objections to Muslims but they be British Muslims...which will involve some compromise

If they want the full on extreme Muslim stuff...go to Muslim Country.

What is badly needed here is a bit of common sense tbh
Report treetop • January 6, 2016 9:22 PM GMT
I couldn't disagree with that summary gerry and I think most critics of Islam would incline to agree. What puzzles me is why so many of our elected officials and the EU seem desperate to lie prostrate in front of the muslim agenda.

For Ramadan, there are options to either not fast or to postpone the fast, so I cannot see the point of this. It's PC gone mad.

That said, there is a case for moving the exams a long way back to avoid the hay fever season.
Report Ron-Russian • January 6, 2016 10:08 PM GMT
who is ramadan?

sounds a right inconsiderate **** if his asking schools to rearrange exams

I agree with that
It is our own weakness which is causing the problem

If we just come up with a clear, simple and fair set of rules....which all other religions must abide by
We would have a lot less bother in the long run....it is not really that hard

it is not a religion

Report DStyle • January 6, 2016 10:39 PM GMT
no.

an employer does not have to accommodate a request from an employee, on the basis of religion, if it can be shown that in doing so, it may be damaging to the business.

it's a pretty simple and fair idea, we'll work your religious practices into our business if we can, but if we can't, it's tough titties. on the other hand, businesses are strictly prohibited from stopping an employee practicing an element of their religion which has no bearing on the operation of our business. again, completely fair.

if we treat education as a collective business, requiring the co-operation of students, teachers and examiners alike, it is very clear that through accommodating such a request, particularly one which brings forward the date of exams, students will be damaged through having a smaller revision window. likewise moving them later has increased cost to the examining boards and teachers, with a curtailed marking window, and compressing the schedule again reduces the revision windows.

then we need to consider that if fasting causes such significant cognitive impairment, why have the timetables for teaching the syllabus during normal term time, when ramadan has fallen outside of the exam window, not been changed accordingly

finally we also consider that fasting over ramadan is not compulsory for many groups, including children.

it's disappointing our exam boards have even entertained the notion.

Wait till we start considering sharia law  because eventually we wiill

are you aware the lawyers association or what ever their body is called were considering including sharia law in proposals to change laws in this country
and suddenly withdrew it when it was found out!!!!

they are everywhere and will gain in influence until they have a grip on power - by numbers or by concentrated groups of control they will have hegemony in this country

Then what it is?...it does involve belief in a God, what we normally require to class something as a religion

Buddhism in not actually a religion, I would accept that

But Islam is most definitely, they have very strict rules...worse than the Catholics

Ramadan is every 50 weeks so the goalposts are moved year on year unlike our  fixed holidays barring Easter of course ( sorry was it wrong to mention Easter on here Shocked Silly )
Report ebulGery • January 7, 2016 12:23 AM GMT
I am glad Christianity does not do that....we would have Christmas in the middle of August. Be hard having a white Christmas then

Do they have 50 weeks years?

Would not have helped them with their crop planting etc, even very early societies predicted the time of year correctly

it was important

Muslims follow the lunar calendar which moves 12 days forward every year against our gregorian calendar. No doubt that will be used as a reason to change our method because it was Pope Gregory ,not too sure about that though ?
Report jed.davison • January 7, 2016 11:14 AM GMT
Islam is of course a religion as it involves theistic worship,  but it is also clearly a political movement,  and it is this facet of Islam that causes most of the issues between it and the civilised world.

One should also be aware that in Islam the notion of what constitutes a child differs from our purely legal definition of minority.

As such, the obligation to fast falls on all who have undergone puberty,  which will mean the overwhelming majority of those being examined by official exam boards.

Look at whats happening in Europe.

Islam is not compatible with Western culture, something has to give.

For me I would like to retain Western culture, this has to mean a suppression of Islam not a pandering.

How much more of this multicultural nonsense must Britain and the West tolerate?

As well as moving the exams, why not also perhaps force UK women and girls to wear full burqa and veil?

The insanity is even more advanced in Germany, where in the latest maddening development the Mayor of Cologne met the rapists halfway by effectively blaming the victims for the situation that developed.

Sweden sadly conceded defeat some time ago, with only Lesotho now suffering more rapes, and the National Police reporting that there were 55 official 'no go' zones where criminal gangs of immigrants are now effectively in charge.

Many reference links available online, and YouTube videos where one can all too clearly witness and soak up all that cultural enrichment that these immigrants have brought to the hitherto cultural wastelands of Bergman, Benny, Bjorn, Borg, Bach, Brahms and Beethoven.

muslims are raping and assaulting, robbing in many german towns and cities and the authorities have tried to keep it quiet

what are the authorities up to exactly - what does this achieve by censoring the press and tv

muslims are only going to carry on and do more as they seek hegemony in every country

so I guess they are just hoping it will go away but when have muslims ever given up trying to get control?

one media outlet has actually apologised for sitting on the stories!!!!

FFS ... why don't they just move Ramadan to winter - say over Christmas & New Year as they're not bothered about Christmas etc.

No clashes with exams, short daylight hours so they can then eat like pigs early on, like ... well eat like hungry horaces, not pigs, obv, ... so long as they don't over indulge and make themselves as sick as dogs ... oh, FFS, well cats then.

Cats are ok for mussies, are they?
