Don't hire it here, you'll never get it across the sea. Better hiring one there. Hope this helps.

Wherever you hire it, it's the extras that bump the price up

johnn ... you could put it on a boat to get it over the sea ? Or an Air transport Plane also.

hire it here to pick up over there, check out prices regularly as can go up in price, we went to alaska 18 months ago and price shot up nearer time ( we had booked earlier fortunately ) , you dont need personal accident insurance as should be covered on travel insurance, but you do need collision damage waiver.
watch out for sharp practice at car hire place, don't bother with sat-nav if you can read a map as get charged on daily basis.

My mate has a place over there I've been with him a few times and just been a named driver. He tells me that he has used Charter Travel 01635 551011,books it here ,

He travels regularly and has never had a problem. I've never seen a problem when I've been with him and we've picked up at Sanford and Orlando.

They are all pretty much the same it's swings and roundabouts.

About 10 years ago went to California on hols.  Booked fly drive.  Went to pick up car in LA airport ... pretty standard compact.  Car hire woman sold me an upgrade for $5 per day to a MUSTANG ... wowee ... so excited.  She gave me the keys and I went to pick it up ... had flat tyre but they fixed it in 20 mins ... wife unimpressed but I told her it was my dream car ... a white MUSTANG.

Got in, squeezed luggage in ... started it ... drove gingerly to exit ... lots of noise but I was careful not to scream off down the road.  Then when clear of car hire place put my foot down ... lots of noise from engine ... brrm bbrrm brrm
BUT NO V8 acceleration??

WTF, stopped car, opened the bonnet and took a look ... it was a 2.0 litre engine ... how they must have laughed

When you get to the desk they will try to sell you a bamboozling array of upgrades, insurance waivers, you name it which can be fecking annoying when you've just stepped off a long haul flight and stood in line for half an hour.

Went once and my brother had "sorted out" the car rental but they wore me down at the desk for 40 minutes and I nearly ended up driving away in some massive black tank of a car with all the add-ons until I saw the thing and came to my senses and said, "Whoa... Feck it, just give me the car that's been booked and let me get out of here!"

recently I've used holidayautos.co.uk

They have all the major companies so you can compare prices easily, I found the prices cheaper via holidayautos than going to the individual sites themselves

Netflights is usually the cheapest and they have a choice of pick up and drop off points. Always book the cheapest grade and never agree to an upgrade at the desk. The car they give you is usually 2 grades higher for free.
