Stayed over at my son's  place last night.
Not too good on the old "plates of meat" these days, because of debilitating Neuropathy.

Can't do stairs in the usual way, you know, left to one step and right to the next, so have to recover on one step at a time.

Stepped off the bottom step onto the ceramic tiled floor wearing just trainer socks and it was like a flipping ice rink!
Slipped and tried to recover but I was gone.

Had my overnight bag in one hand and my water glass in the other.

Strange how we react instinctively in these circumstances, as when I was going backwards, and waiting for my head to smack down, I threw my water glass out of the way,
and hit my elbow and other hand but was spared having my head caved in!

Funny how sometimes you will have a bruise but can't remember where from!

Later today my first thumb knuckle is hurting like hell, but I just didn't connect it to the fall!

Reason being that it's a recurring problem, following an event in the seventies, where I bent it right back and out of joint!

Some astute people on here may well remember the happening!

Anyway, that's the most excitement for me today so looking forward to being fed tomorrow....Excited

Aunty, you really need to be more careful. Socks on a slippy floor?

And, seeing as you have difficulty coming downstairs, you should always keep one hand free to hold the handrail.

Glad you are more or less ok. Could have been very nasty.

Happy Christmas, Aunty Love

Thanks Diva,
Yes I know should be careful but I was only going at .00001 mph at the time!

Some really touching posts today and I have a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
Unfortunately so does my fridge freezer, that I discovered when I got back home, has handed in it's notice!!!

So if you like Lobster, Rainbow Trout,Calamari, Gamberoni and Fillet Steak, I have some going cheap.

My very best wishes to you and yours and, as usual, for a Preposterous New Year....Love

Thank you Aunty Happy

Yes, good point but it was well discussed subsequently!

It all hinged around an E-type Jag, a very pretty girl, dressed as very pretty girls did in '72, and an external metal staircase!

You had to be there.....Tongue Out

Found my previous explanation of what happened....

Can't forget this day in '71.

Went to pick up my E-Type and was going up exterior stairs to the office, and following the very pretty secretary.

Should have been paying attention to the stairs instead of her overwhelming charms!

I tripped and grabbed the metal hand rail, and bent my thumb backwards and out of joint.

Fighting back the tears, and trying to be a man, and with no option other than waiting for an ambulance, or pulling it as hard as I could,
to get it back in place (has to be a joke there somewhere) I went with the second option.

The good news is that it worked, whilst she held on to me, and spontaneously kissed me, and I had her perfume with me all day.

Because it was weakened, I have knocked it out (another joke) twice since, and all these years later it still hurts.

Had a very touching response of understanding and commiseration, from kenny mann, who is one of the few on here who, when we said we were going to Mecca, didn't think we were going to some stinking, arid, sh!te country, to beat ourselves with stones till we bled, and risk getting killed in a stampede!

Actually, thinking about it kenny it wasn't much better!

Pleased you are OK AP.
It's easily done. A few years back, wearing only socks on my feet I slipped downstairs and broke a couple of toes. Ever since I make sure I'm wearing well fitting slippers and one hand on the rail.
Stairs can be lethal for us old codgers.Scared

Thanks...in real terms we are very fragile.

We don't have to fall far to hurt ourselves badly, or to be seriously killed....joke!

I could name several events, where just a few inches different, could have been fatal!

Anyway let's not be morbid, as it's Christmas, and I and my alter ego are having a brilliant time, putting the world to rights
whilst consuming vast amounts of vino, and just about to get out the Scrabble (I win every time, though I do cheat, and look at his letters)!)

mobo...just saw your post.

I'll hang onto it as long as possible. I've put some dairy products in the garage where, today, the temp was below 5 degrees, which is
acceptable fridge temperature.

Pity we have no snow as I could have made an igloo style freezer.

Anyway I just got through a nice bottle of "Cotes Du Rhone" and am sitting here admiring a bottle of "H.Valrasque" "Chateauneuf-du-Pape"
that was given to me earlier.

Actually after admiring the classy bottle, and label, and 14%ABV, and assumed quality, I just checked it out and whilst some are saying £84.00
a case (equal to £14.00 per bottle), the reviews are scathing with one saying it would have been poor value at £2.00 per bottle!!!Cry

not wishing to steel your thunder but I give away stuff like chatter niffy pap - overpriced cooking wine!!!

but truthfully I did give a bottle to someone who had been brilliant to me when I spent some time in hospital

I was once given a case of varied wines by a chap I did a favour for - one of the declared best was a hungarian red (value a couple of quid!!)

funny old game!!!

anyway, ignore by blagging - it is all down to personal taste.

I have been known to have an abbot ale shandy !!!!(when very thirsty)  Don't tell CAMRA !!!
