Fifa: Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini get lengthy bans
Fifa president Sepp Blatter and Uefa boss Michel Platini have been suspended for eight years from all football-related activities following an ethics investigation.
They were found guilty of breaches surrounding a £1.3m ($2m) "disloyal payment" made to Platini in 2011. Both men denied any wrongdoing. The bans come into force immediately.
Fifa boss since 1998, Blatter, 79, had already announced he was quitting ahead of February's presidential election. Platini, 60, was tipped as a future leader of football's world governing body and had hoped to succeed Blatter.
A three-time European Footballer of the Year and former captain of France, he had been in charge of Uefa - European football's governing body - since 2007.
Blatter and Platini have also been fined £33,700 ($40,000) and £54,000 ($80,000) respectively,
Both men are likely to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport but their careers in football appear over.
Yes pumphol, the fines are derisory, almost a let off. Hope you're right cooperman, and I suspect you are. Someone has been lifting the lid on this corrupt box of maggots, and there must be more to come out yet. The numbers of arrests so far shows at least the FBI mean business, but please let's have some proper punishment?

FBI are starting prosecuting under their racketeering legislation and the last one I can think of on this scale was the Bernie Madhoff ponzi scheme. Bernie currently serving 155 years. Watch out Sepp.

They gave Chuck Blazer the option of talking and wearing a 'wire' and he agreed so we can assume, since he was informing from 2011, that he gave them some good ammunition. They will keep climbing the pyramid until they reach the peak imo. Just a coincidence I'm sure but Blatter has not set foot in the good old USA since 2011. Nervous Sepp?

If everyone below you is corrupt its safe to say the person at the top of the pile is in the same boat, I wonder which organisation went b e n t first the IOC or FIFA, my guess is one got its ideas from the other, also a precursor for the EU which will surely take over the mantle in due course.

U.S.A. Dept. of Justice arrest another sixteen members of FIFA executive and have applied for extradition to the States. Hard to see this having a happy ending now all the defendants are queueing up to spill the beans.
