My longest-serving ( over 45 years ) and possibly my best friend is an Ian. Not a malicious bone in his body.

Now that's a spooky coincidence Salmon Spray, as I've just been thinking of any Ians I know and I can only recall one, long ago, who was named Ian Salmon - and a very nice chap he was too.

Know three. Two are decent but use the Iain spelling the Ian one is a mega tw*t

Met several nice Ians. Whereas Nick, they seem to usually be be ****s.

I have a confession my name is Ian and I'm not an @rsehole.

Turning into a fkin Ian love-in this thread, not what I intended at all.
We're not talking about gays or blacks here, you don't all have to pretend to count many nice "Ians" in your circle of friends. You're clearly all making it up. |

Funny you should mention it......I have known 3 Ian's, 2 were the Biggest pair of **** i have ever met in my life....Bar None.

One was Gay and the biggest bitch i have ever had the displeasure to meet.

I think we've heard more than enough, and that's without me mentioning the 'difficult' Ian Dury.
Credible witnesses have spoken and the Ians have to be avoided. There can be no room for sentimentality in a detailed Public Enquiry like this. Take them down. Next case please. We can't have the courts being clogged up with the time-wasting Ians. |

Agreed !!

I mis read this and thought it said a nice L A N ...
I thought it was some sort of code (or OP meant have I ever met a nice local area network) ... a lan being a kind of gayer with exotic tastes - long and narrow, little and nimble. No doubt we have a couple or so gayers on here (almost certainly, imo) who can straighten this out. |

By:
can only think of one Ian I know. Went to school with him and he tracked me down a few years back through Friends Reunited(?).
Thoroughly good egg. A former tae kwan do national champion as well. |

There are types of names that not ok, regardless of who they belong to. Ian is one and so is Adolf.

Gentleman of Chit Chat. I am in a right old state, and need your advice.
We live in a nice quiet area, thankfully free (as yet) of Pretendy Refugees from Syria (i.e ISIS terrorists), but there is a HUGE and TERRIFYING spectre on our horizon. I have learned that a person named IAN has purchased the house two away from us and will be moving in after Xmas. What the Huntleying, Shipmaning hell do I do about it? Is there some sort of puerile type of online Petition (a la the Donald Trump one) that I could sign to stop it happening? Think of me kindly as I spend what might be my last peaceful Xmas. |

The bad Ians are a tiny minority which give the vast majority of decent and law abiding Ians a bad name.
It's getting out of hand now. After Sir Ian Botham's recent charity walk where he once again raised a small fortune, a noxious Twitter hashtag #youAintNoIanBruv was a cruel reminder of the prejudice that festers within our society. |

Some great stuff from alun, Sultan and others.

I'm sure there must be plenty of nice ones but my nephew (Ian) is in the @rsehole category. When he came out of the Army he portrayed himself as an Andy McNab, shady Special Forces type of guy. When in fact, apart from a short time training in Canada he served only in the UK. Then he joined the police and is heavily involved with a specially selected squad pursueing organised crime. (When he's finished with the drunks at closing time)

The evidence is, quite frankly, overwhelming.
Not even Dr Nikki Alexander from 'Silent Witness' could presume to take a contrary position. |

I hope this will be debated on Question Time tonight as it's far more important than this refugee malarkey, economic issues, leaving the EC etc.

The only Ian who has bothered me is Ian Wright. Now he is an enormous tw@t.

The fact that virtually all "Ian"s are total coonts isn't quite as illogical as it might at first sound. I mean they were given that name by their parents. It is an awful name surely we are all agreed on that, however you spell it, just awful. You would have to be an @rsehole to name your son "Ian". So if you are called "Ian" your parents, by definition, are @rseholes. Simple genetics tells you that you have a greater than 85% chance of being an @rsehole. And that is just the genetics, that is if you were adopted at birth and brought up by reasonable people. Chances are that didn't happen, chances are that you were brought up by those vile specimens that decided to title you, of all things, "Ian". So not only have you got the "nature" side of being an @rsehole covered by virtue of the genetics, you probably have the "nurture" side bagged too because you were brought up by @rseholes, learning you from the day dot how to be an @rsehole in future life. Monkey see monkey do and all that. In fact Ian, I bet you are such a coont you would call your own son Ian out of spite. The cycle needs to be broken, crucifixion too good for them I reckon.

The only Ian I recall is a bell-end. He borrowed some cash off me when we were drinking, then when I asked for it back he said that it wasn't really mine anyway as I was unemployed at the time. After explaining what I was going to do to him, he gave me the cash and went home
