Are we heading towards the edge of a cliff?

One issue that concerns me is this: what happens when all the people in rented accommodation, who wil never be able to buy a property, retire and can no longer afford to pay rent?

Just to clarify, I wasn't alluding to a potential crash, just that we may be facing a precarious situation.

The government will pay their rent for them.  Govt made a good move with their 3% extra stamp duty on BTL too.  Think they should come up with some form of rent cap too.  There are lots of things that should have been done, is a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted though.

They will but what will be the knock-on effect? It's going to be very costly.

with the government despite all the garble likely to be building 150.000 houses to few each year for the next 10 years and the population getting bigger ,there,ll be plenty of people ready to rent or buy any properties OAP,S cant afford the rent on,so you might not end up on the street but the place the government will help you fund in the future ,you might wish you were on the street

Nobody can predict the future but the trend is towards us having the biggest population in the EU later in the century. Big "diverse" population. Small island. Plenty of fun and games.

I wouldn't like to predict what madcap schemes governments' of the future will come up with. They are already wildly divorced from reality but still borrowing this much money so deep into the economic cycle when a recession is just about due does help illustrate how deep we are with immigration presenting the illusion that it isn't as bad as it is.

Merry Christmas. Laugh

EO  when we have completely converted it will not be a problem.  We can house 12/20 to a house.  Problem solved.  You didn't see that coming did you. ha ha!!
