I think Cumbria comes a long way down on the disaster scale. Not wishing to be harsh on those who have suffered from flooding. Sad

No, and UK Charity begins abroad,
For the past 3 years, 10, 11 and £12 BILLION Pounds, have been given away to Foreign aid, Bangladesh, Pakistan and other African countries.

The people of Cumbria don't count, their misfortune doesn't count.

A classic case of hatred of your own and a love of the strange.

When was the last time you were bitten by a Mosquito in the UK Whoops
Report wildmanfromborneo • December 13, 2015 9:47 PM GMT
Diverting some of the billions being squandered on foreign aid would have a twofold effect.
It would give much needed relief to the people of Cumbria and give a boost to that local economy.

Stopping poor afriacans getting malaria is something I 100% agree with.
I don't mind at all if some of my tax goes to that good.
It's the other sh*t we piss away that annoys me :(

My gripe is that if there is a lot of flooding near sellafield, why aren't the bottling the water and sending it to me so I can get superpowers?

££Billions spent,

Are the British the most giving nation on the planet, judging by all the expensive appeals Charity shops, and army of 'Chuggers' we must be near the top.!

We've an appeal going in Scotland. So far we've collected 8000 gallons. Every little helps.
Report sidthekid • December 14, 2015 12:12 AM GMT
The figures are astonishing.
There are more than 195,289 registered charities in the UK that raise and spend close to £80Billion a year.
Together, they employ more than a Million staff – more than our car, aerospace and chemical sectors – and make 13 billion ‘asks’ for money every year, the equivalent of 200 for each of us in the UK.
Report akabula • December 14, 2015 12:19 AM GMT
That's staggering statistics.

Will Factoids be opening his home to the struggling and stranded of Cumbria, or is it an Islamics-only property now?   I don't suppose he would want to offend his Peace-Loving guests by having some white British types with funny Northern accents on the premises.

Judged on this thread we're certainly the biggest whingers, but we knew that already, the classic (and classy) stiff upper lip and just dealing with it old Britain, being replaced by victimhood, wanting someone else to do something about it and emoting all over the place.

My daughter is getting about  £700 £500 grant and £200 from some church fund.
She was the young woman on the life boat who kept saying she was freezing on sky news the day after the flood her baby is living at our house for the foreseeable future until her home is ready to move back into.

These unfortunate people are about to experience a terrible Christmas with more flooding expected over the weekend. They are taxpayers, in the rainiest county in England and surely deserve to have more support when the Government has ring fenced overseas aid and cut flood defences. Millions were thrown at Kids Company when people who deserved help were left in the lurch. It is nothing less than a National disgrace.

If I was flooded out of my home and - okay Ill bite on the bait here - another country offered charity money to me, I would refuse as best I could, to be the recipient of any such gift however well meant.

Then again, I don't get off on being a pretend victim and see Muslims as the new / latest bogeymen and can also watch the BBC with fully functioning bu11shit detectors
Report treetop • December 28, 2015 9:47 PM GMT
I would much rather the governemnt began to force the Environment Agency to begin spending its cash on flood defences, dredging rivers and streams and employing engineers to analyse and predict potential flood areas more efficiently instead of blaming it all on the easy answer of climatechange (hence we cant do anything about it so its not our fault, you just have to suffer).
