I am and I do ... what's the point?

I complained to the TPS people and all they did is send me a long form to fill in asking for very specific details of the call!!

I bought a CPR Call Blocker off ebay a few weeks ago,  only cost £19.99 and works very well. You should buy one mememe.

as a poster says, most calls originate from overseas (I do get UK ones and as soon as I ask where they got my number, the hang up).

How do the blockers work?

How do they know it's not a call from the woman next door saying the coast is clear and her husband's gone to work on the night shift and she's asked a friend over and do I want to pop round to see her etchings?  Hypothetically speaking, of course.

But seriously, how do they work?
TIA

I have a BT8500 phone with call screening/blocking ... explains how it works here

it's been excellent, and I've noticed the number of calls has reduced (you can see the calls in the log, even though they don't disturb you), presumably because the callers log that the number has a blocker and it gets removed form the databases that are sold

"How do they know it's not a call from the woman next door saying the coast is clear" I used to get those, if the missus picked up first, I would calmly say, I'm fed telling them I'm not subscribing to any weather service!. got away with it for 3 years, pretty good run, me thinks.Laugh

mememe the one I got was pre-programmed with more than 200 numbers which are 'deemed' as known nuisance callers. Companies which are selling by phone, using overseas call centres and automated sales lists are all pre-programmed which will minimise the sales calls you receive almost immediately.
There's also a Block Now’  on the top of the unit. At the touch of a button the unwanted caller’s number is logged into the unit’s memory, the call will hang up and the number blocked permanently.
So there's no chance you'll miss the woman next door's   call.Grin

Thanks for info

I'll get on to ebay right away, now that I won't miss any calls from next door. She might need urgent assistance and I'd hate to disappoint!
Thanks again

My missus has taught the parrot to say "The coast is clear" she must have drummed it into him hundreds if times as he's not the quickest on the "up take", don't know why, she bothered, but at least that selfish tw@t next door can't say what a waste of money he was any more. With him it's all about himhimhim. CrazyLaugh

I've got Virgin Media cable phone (ex directory) and only receive about 3 nuisance calls per year. Applied to TPS a few years ago now and on the whole seems to work very well. No magic boxes or anything like that.

Well BB, the cpr phone blocker has programming codes, so if you want to block withheld or unavailable numbers you can just by putting in the correct code which is in the user guide. It's as simple as that.

..and before you ask - no I don't have shares in this product.Grin
