No picking at ice, I just switched it offGrin
Thermostat hasn't changed.
It's Indesit BB.

Need to work out whether it's had it before I depart with 700 odd quid for a new one. I wasn't planning on spending that much on Xmas presents let alone something as boring as a fridge that brings joy to no one except convenience.

From where do you get £700? Are you talking about a, so called, American style one?

If not, there's a shed load starting at £200.00.

Anyone buying a new one should go for a Frost Free one

2011 maybe, too much ice in freezer, ice pushed trays forward, trays pushed doors forward, doors open, ice began to melt, spilled on to kitchen floor, shut doors, cleaned mess, ice built up again, process repeated, made in Polska. Yes Aunty, they last over a decade normally so might as well get a proper one.

2011 ...thats not old ,if its got dodgy seals and ice has been forming and pushing door open the motor tends to run more than it should ,however at 4 years old it should do for a bit longer .

is motor kicking in or trying to kick in ,if you switch it off and then  on whats going on ?

*if you switch it off and on at the wall

motor does sound slightly different and slightly more audible, nothing changes when switched on and off.

so motor starts and runs ?

does it run and is it getting warm (the motor ) ? can you here the sound of fluid moving ,sometimes sounds like tinkling or gas in the pipes ,is the coils on back of unit getting warm ?
By:

yeah, motor runs and warms, there is a kind of sucking up of fluid sound that lasts about a second and a half, then maybe 10 seconds later does the same thing. Coils not warm though.

sounds like its low on gas ,make sure freezer is  fully defrosted ,but if motor is starting and running continuously? ...should start to get quite warm to hot but if your not used to checking you wont know .

whats prob hap is due to door being forced open motor has been running more than needed ,prob been costing you money as well ,seals on door are prob the initial cause ,once the frost starts forming tends to be easier to damage seals further .

you sure its a 2011 model Laugh are you over 60?  a few years old to a chit chat coffin dodger could be 20+ Laugh

Not only that - buy from a place that does new ones with a slight knock on them somewhere and they're even cheaper than scraps!

My beautiful, frost-free, Bosch XX fridge-freezer is still going strong after 10 years and was a pittance of a price just because there was a slight dent the size of a petit pois on the side of it.
