thology is in fact theology. The security dealt with it but I would like to know who the culprit is. We do have a computer wizard in the American branch of the family and he is a 7th Day Adventist.

What exactly said you were attacked, and how? Was it a firewall, and you are connected directly to the with no hardware firewall? Antivirus? Or a plain looking dialog box in your web browser?

Normally an antivirus will log the actual details, maybe have a link to a description on the website, or you can search for details on the website.
Norton these days isn't just an antivirus thoguh it's a whole lot so again that may be a firewall thing.
How exactly are you connected to the internet?
This is what Norton says: https://www.symantec.com/security_response/attacksignatures/detail.jsp?asid=27430 http://www.symantec.com/security_response/attacksignatures/detail.jsp?asid=26992
What brower do you use, I take it you were surfing at the time? Make sure the browser is latest version.

Probably internet explorer then. (which I don't like). I hope you have windows update on?
You may be ok by sounds of things, sounds like norton caught it.
There's say 3 ways you'll get infected from the net I'd say 1. Browser exploit or you've bad low security settings in your browser. 2. You download and install something bad or open a dodgey email or attachment 3. No firewall and something on the net can get to your PC directly, used to happen all the time with modems, rarer now people use routers.
I'd make sure security settings in your browser aren't low for the internet and that's auto updated.

Flash updates independently of windows and can be set to update never, automatically, or prompt you. You definitely want that updating, it's always blinking updating to get round security things etc.
