i'd been talking to a bloke in the jacuzzi when we decided to use the sauna. On entering there was one lady laying down. We sat on the bench opposite and i continued our conversation and inquired if he commuted every day. With this the lady groaned, i thought it was the heat, as my 'friend' began to answer the woman interrupted and said sternly "Is this going to go on because if so go and have a coffee. I've had a really really bad day a want to lay here and try to relax. I was shocked and said see yer later to my 'friend' and left the gym. I'm now wondering what my response should have been? If it makes any difference the gym is just a £300ish a year Bannantynes. We are bound to meet again.

Just about commuting ?? if you weren't demeaning women, talking about religion or politics then enjoy your coffee" should have been the answer. Wink.

My grammar wasn't great there. The lady in question wasn't in the jacuzzi when we started our conversation. All she heard was me ask him, "Do you commute every day?" He got as far as replying "Yes on my motorbike...." before she interrupted.

Enjoy your coffee would have been a great response.

Swimming pools helpfully display a chart showing good etiquette.
Perhaps Bannatynes should get one - 12 cartoons of things that should not happen there

Should of said, "It's alright love. You were are 200th customer todeay and I'm here to give you your free massage... Ooops! I've dropped me towel... fortunately it hasn't dropped down to the floor as it's caught on some sort of massive clothes peg... "

It's only later when you think of these things. Plain

My response - choose from these three
"If you want a silent sauna, get one at home. Where's it say we can't talk?"
or
"What's up? You due on?"
or
"fukc off, if I want to talk, I'll talk. I couldn't give a toss about your day"

Sauna etiquette requires complete silence, nothing worse than enjoying a sauna only for two people without a hint of self-awareness to come in and continue/start an inane conversation.

This is just yet another example of women who can be rude to men without fear of any comeback.

If the situation was reversed, no doubt you'd probably be accused of being a sexist bully.

My response would be, it is a public place.  If you require total silence then either install a sauna at home or wear earplugs!

I was always somewhat nervous of going into the steam room at mine.
Hoping there will be nobody in there and then wondering whether to say "morning" or whatever the time of day.

The solution is to wear earphones, and just acknowledge with a smile, and raised hand.
