I stumbled across this the other day whilst looking for another Lloyds product.

Features and benefits

Shariah-approved banking

Following the guidance of Islam is an important part of everyday life, so we've made it an important part of everyday banking. Our Shariah committee of two independent scholars has guided us to create an account that’s right for you.

Banking in accordance with Shariah

There’s no credit or debit interest, no Planned Overdraft, no minimum balance required and no charges for everyday transactions.

Your money used wisely

You can be confident the money you keep with us will not be used for any interest-based or non-Shariah approved activities.

I can't see there being any interest at all in this account.

Might get an account - just as insurance in case I become involved in an IS type hostage situation.

A quick flash of my Islamic Visa to the terrorists and I will be safely on my way.

Was talking with one of my friends from the City and he says there is a huge market for financial products that sit comfortably with Shariah law.

LLoyds account is probably an MI5 sting operation.

I had to double-check I hadn't been mis-sold an Islamic account as I haven't had any effing interest in mine for years.

I an grateful to have this brought to my attention.

I have considerable funds both deposited and invested with Lloyds.  If the original post proves to be true, I'll be transferring the lot and making my reasons clear in a letter to Senor Osorio.  A small and futile gesture in the grand scheme of things, perhaps, but for a British bank to offer such an account is a disgrace.

Incredible.

I'll do a little more research just to be assured I'm not falling for some sort of spoof, of course.

One could hardly make that welcome pack up, especially the page entitled Are you ready for your next trip abroad!  It appears to be genuine but, as I mentioned, a little more research would probably be wise.
