Not quite on topic but in nearby (not too close, mind, but close enough for me) Birmingham, Julian Clary is starring in Aladdin.
Apparently locals wanted Abu Hamza, but he's now doing a gig in a US Penitentiary, they say he's got a part in Peter Pan.
Mind you, Julian Clary always wanted a part in Peter Pan.

I hasten to add, that was last Sunday. Apologies to anyone thinking of making a last minute dash to north Derbyshire in the hopes of seeing Philip Green.

Solihull's Christmas lights were switched on on 21 November.
BUT BECAUSE OF HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES THERE WAS NO PUBLIC EVENT!
However Santa is coming to Solihull, to Brueton Park, on 6 December.
FFS, I would have switched them on if they'd asked me. I'm not scared of getting wet if it rains.

Still looking like Kingdom would have won this contest for Taunton imo. If he'd turned up.
Loughborough clear second with Sam and Amy from GEM 106. You know you've made it in the celeb stakes when you no longer need your surname.

On the subject of musical theatre stars appearing in Birmingham , I happened to be walking near the Hippodrome a couple of weeks ago and Craig Revel-Horwood walked past me on his way to playing Miss Hannigan in Annie.
He is quite tall.

Flicking the switch will be Natalie Soroko and Louis Clarke who are in the Bedford Pantomime Company’s production of Cinderella at Bedford Corn Exchange. The town will be awash with light at 7.30pm

Due to the severe weather forecast, Taunton Christmas lights switch on has been postponed until Sunday 6th December.
Johnny Kingdom will still switch the lights on, along with Miss Somerset and Father Christmas on Sunday 6th December, 5pm at Castle Green.
No mention of a pitiless searchlight of the soul being switched on.

I think that a quick thinking chit chatter could kill 2 birds with one stone, here.
Get down to the light switching on event (if not too late) AND post a tenuous claim to fame!

our little village had a major coup planned with Christopher Timothy [yes a man best known for shoving his hand up a cows arse] due to switch on the lights last Saturday. Unfortunately heavy rain and high winds meant health and safety decreed it wasn't safe to flick a switch on so it was cancelled and we remain in darkness until such a time as the cow fiddler can fit us into his hectic schedule

THE fanfare surrounding the switch-on of Taunton’s Christmas lights will not be happening this year, it has been announced.
There will still be lights and a Christmas tree in the town centre, but no event especially dedicated to turning on the lights throughout the town.
Colin Barrell, chairman of the Taunton Chamber of Commerce, said: “I wonder if the event just gives people a reason to be disappointed anyway.”

Johnny Kingdom sadly unavailable this year, but we'll all remember him for his career highlight at Christmas 2016.
Taunton rather missing the point this year by getting someone worthy and dignified to switch on the lights - 97-year-old Jim Booth, the D-Day frogman who survived an attack with a claw hammer by a burglar last year.
Never mind. He was assisted by "the cast of the Wizard of Oz, who are performing at the Brewhouse Theatre from December 7 until December 30". Which is how these things should be done.
