Wot, a big turkey ... you should be saving that 'til Christmas.
What are you having for pudding ... |
|
By:
Having chicken. Pumpkin pie, obviously.

Some who work will welcome "Thanksgiving" as another day off!
Everybody, it seems, are "Hi Fiving"; even the Catholic Priest after the service. Everyone says "Hi", even in correspondence where they also use your first name! Then there is "Siblings Day".... "Veteran's Day" "Memorial Day" "Doughnut Day"! YES PLEASE.... ![]() |

Don't forget Black Friday!

I've noticed a lot more "Nutcracker" wooden soldiers appearing around christmas over the last couple of years too - something else imported from America that you never used to see.
|

"Labor Day".....
|
|
By:
The Yanks barely get any holidays compared to us Europeans. While I'm no supporter of imperialism, objecting Veteran's Day and Memorial Day seems a bit crass. Also, they don't celebrate May Day, as it's a Commie affair, so have Labor Day instead.
Any of them sound more worthy than 'Seemingly Random Holiday at the End of August Day.' |

What a nasty and charmless lot the British are becoming.

chiropodist now a podiatrist, apparently.
Still a healthcare professional though, though not, obviously, a firefighter. Solicitors now lawyers Did we used to have convenience stores, or were they just shops in the old days? Minorites ... in my day they were either fatties, kids with ginger hair ... err, I'd better stop with this one. |

the sheer lack of casual good manners is what shocks the Americans about Britain today. They are very surprised but this is changing. No doubt because of people like mememe and the rest of the sheep
|
|
By:
In the US, not only do they have "National Holidays" but also others, peculiar to particular states.

Fat £uckers imo

It is quite amazing that it is the British working class, ugly, fat, common, thick necked and thick headed, and smelly who have never lived and worked or maybe met or even understood anyone who are so presumptuous..such a credit to this country...don`t worry the rest of the world is starting to see.
|

By:
lfc, you seem like a well educated, deep thinking and tolerant chap.
But don't believe all you see on Jeremy Kyle ... they're just the cream of the crop ... there's an underclass out there. |

8 bank holidays a year and we use up 3 of them in the middle of p1ssing winter, 2 more in March next year. Thank you for fk all Christianity. At least the muslims can have their ramadamadingdong in summer sometimes.

Ive only caught the back end of this thread, but one half of my grandparents were 'British Working Class' steelworkers and let me tell you had you the front to tell them that to their face you would be extinct. For all their toil that goes uncounted they had strengths that such as you would wilt before. |

Christmas would be unbearable if it didn`t snow.

Nobody likes poor people, who can deny that?

Are you saying you wish to forget the past lfc? |

By:
I sense you feel offended by the thread outlining what is over here to be something of an 'Americanisation' of things.
You dont need to take it personally flower. Start one up about your love of america, why I dont mind the odd handburger myself |

I am talking about the casual stupidity and unthinking nature of the opening post... one thing Americans are not is stupid. This anti Americanism from British people is like a virus.
|
|
By:
You get smart people and stupid people and some in between. Same as anywhere.
|
|
By:
Yes Mikael, but its not quite the same as anywhere is it. The record shows that Americans are good at pretty much everything...that is how it is.

Tied for 28th on the World Literacy league table, according to this, with UK and Guam, among others. Well behind Cuba.

lfc,
I've lived and worked in the US - near Boston - so you can't get a more educated area than that. The US people I worked with were charming. That was 20 years ago. Since then the US Governments and their supporters have dramatically de-stabilised an already unstable middle East. They lied to their people and ours about the threat from Iraq. They illegally invaded a sovereign country and had no plans whatsoever what they would do when they had removed Saddam. And subsequently their foreign "policy" has been to bomb and kill thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, in the middle East to achieve their aims (I'm not sure what they are - and I don't believe they do). I almost chose to stay in the US in 1985, I liked it and the people a lot. I despise them now for the trouble they have caused and are still causing... Yes, I'm afraid, generally, they have sh1t for brains (not everyone) (and a president who makes Bill Clinton look statesman-like) |

Look I don`t need to list the number of famous an talented American people, there are thousands. Now lets look at Cuba, or China, or France..now China may sometime come up with the equivalent of the first manned flight, or rock music, or jazz, or cinema, or the Masters in April the start of spring, or a book by Mark Twain, or break the sound barrier...they may do, or may not.

Ihave also lived and worked in America, the thing I noticed almost immediately was how charming and nice the average person was..i was working with the ordinary person in a factory.

I too was in NY only a few years ago, charming is a pretty good description of most I met, the rest were ridiculously racist....I mean in a way that because Im white they felt the need to tell me of all the wrongs of non whites whenever others weren't around.
