We have decided to adapt one of our existing Voyager aircraft so that, in addition to its primary air tanking role, it can transport Ministers and it will also be available for the Royal family to use.

how can it be both transport for PM and air refueling tanker Confused would stink of petrol for a start!

£10m (estimated) up front cost to save £775,000 a year (another 'estimate'). Even with these undoubtedly dodgy figures it'll take 13 years to recoup the outlay?! What a joke!

Totally my first thoughts TB and that is just accepting the qoted figures and not giving more thought to additional expense!

So it's like a "pool car" but just wonder who gets first shout: Cameron or the royals.

No doubt Wills and Kate will be hankering after it for their jollys, but having flown them to some exotic place half way round the world, does it sit on the ground to take them back, or fly half way round the world again to whizz Cameron of on another jaunt, or as stated to spend two weeks in the air as a refuelling plane, and then halfway round the world to pick up Wills and Kate and then halfway round the world back, and then off to retrieve Cameron.

They are as naive a set of figures, as a young couple might contrive to convince themselves that they can afford a new car, and 50" TV,
if they stop smoking and don't go out on a Saturday night, and give up their season ticket to LUFC!

....then consider that if Wills and Kate, and Cameron, want to return at the same time, which of them get the bus!!

It's not a new plane.  It's an aeroplane already within the inventory that is going to be refitted and partially re-roled.

In the current climate it makes total sense for our leader/head of state to have a dedicated, military-operated aeroplane, not least because of the added security aspect.

just pay your taxes.  That's what hard working families do.

You know it makes sense

Absolutely!!

Do we know how old this plane is likely to be, and what the life expectancy is, or is it infinite given regular maintenance?

will the queen have her own dunny?

Imagine that she wants to go for a wee, and Dave's just been in before her and done a big and smelly no. 2.

But maybe they'll heve an air freshener thing with "by Royal Appointment" on it.

It is a Voyager procured under the (controversial) AirTanker PFI.  There is spare capacity within the fleet, so much so that one aircraft is already leased to Thomas Cook.
