In the summer my mum told my grandma that the tea pot that has been gathering dust in her conservatory 'might be worth a few quid'.

My old man took it to an auction house in Edinburgh today.

Shocked

I'm just drafting a 'dear grandma' letter this very minute!

Buyers premium 25% plus 20% vat on the fee. £47.5k becomes over £61k.

As nice as the dense scrolling foliage is, I'd be looking for a tea cosy thrown in at that price.

On some antiques program I think they said that the new found wealth in china meant a lot of nouveau rich chinese business men were now on the lookout to buy old Chinese stuff abroad. I'd guess the buyer was a phone buyer over that way.

A terrific result Mr Eboue.

I can confirm from watching televisual feasts like the 'Antiques Road Trip' that a lot of antique Chinese stuff goes for fortunes these days, purchased by wealthy Chinese clients.

I just hope the teapot didn't cost her more in the first place… !

I've just phoned her - asked where she got it - My Grandpa, god rest his soul, forked out £15 for it in 1978!

Wow ...lovely story and wonderful investment 37 years ago.

An unusual large enamelled yixing teapot and cover, circa 1820, signed Shao Yuanhua. Estimate £5,000 - 8,000 (€7,100 - 11,000).

Did well  8/10 x times the reserve price.

we all be drafting a "Dear Grandma letter "Grin

Well done to all...... more Tea Vicar !

To be fair that is a very nice looking teapot, and I'm not known for my aesthetic appreciation.

Nice one Eboue.

nice one mr eboue , great result ! maybe we should have a kind of chit chat road show where posters put pics up of their collectables like the poster with the oil painting months back  and see if any one has info on them or valuations , trash  treasure whatever! it would be interesting!could always go to auctions for valuations but I don't trust the feckers as far as I could throw them !
