Shopkeeper Baljit Singh Virdi wants more refugees on his island
"There are already about 35 Polish families on the island, and I would like it if hundreds more families came to Rothesay. I'm so glad the refugees from Syria are coming here," he said.
Scottish MSP Humza Yousaf said it was "a proud day for Scotland", which he said offered "the warmest of welcomes".
The government has said 20,000 refugees will be resettled in the UK by 2020 - with 1,000 due to arrive by Christmas.
One woman, who gave her name only as Margaret, told me: "It's a small island, so you've got to watch what you say... I mean no harm to them, but I think charity should begin at home."
So only Margaret is not keen on the idea

He said relatives used to carry him to the basement during bombardments, because he has leg problems caused by childhood polio and cannot walk fast. I don't know much about them but I'm guessing their members are akin to the EDLs.
The idea of these defence leagues is good but they do attract the extremists so I'll give them a miss. My marching days are over. |

I don't think it is going to be a good idea for Europe and the UK to accept refugees. Saudi Arabia and the gulf states should have taken them. It could all end in tears if not in this generation then the next. Multiculturalism at the lower level of society does not work.

The genie is out the bottle,If Syria was to be rid of all the troubles and rebuilt the refugees would not return the cushy life they have here will trump anything anywhere else.Would love to see "a pop up church" in ANY mosque in ANY muslem country should "Margaret" and her family decided to move there.
