Personally, I`ve never seen the attraction of travelling to third world countries and with the current political and terrorist situation around the world, I just don`t get why people would still want to go there. Some of the countries that I would never visit are:
Any country in Africa
All third world countries in Asia and the Middle East
All countries that don`t sell alcohol
All South American countries
Turkey
Mexico and all other central American countries

Seriously though, I'd guess that even most African countries could be visited without too much risk of anything much worse than being robbed, and being robbed isn't all that bad. Of course if you go to the wrong part of town you could be in for a far higher chance of trouble, but the wrong part of town is normally fairly easy to avoid if you have any sense.
Depends on your attitude to risk, really.

The couple down the road are booking for Egypt too, claiming they`ll get a great deal now given the troubles in the area.
Cartmel is a nice place to visit N. England and it just happens to have a racecourse 
Israel is one of the best places I've been to. There were daily riots in Jerusalem and rockets were fired into Tel Aviv on the day I left.
