A plane is blown out of the sky last week after departing Sharm airport.

The government takes the unprecedented action of grounding planes bound for the UK until it can sure that it is safe to do so.

And what do we get? Whingers moaning about how long it is taking to ensure and guarantee that they too will not be blown out of the sky.

You really couldn't make it up.

I posted this a short while ago on the politics forum.

Do tell me if I am being particularly harsh but I wouldn't in a month of Sundays be holidaying in Egypt at anytime over the last 3/4 years, ever since the Arab Spring period. I felt the same earlier this year regarding Tunisia. Amazed at the start of November there are 20k + UK nationals. Now I hear there are 40,000+ Russians there. Don't these people ever watch the news and take a view about the region's instability?

I posted earlier that you'd never get me on a plane ...

Baggage handlers at Birmingham airport??

At East Midlands, at Leeds Bradford??

No thanks, I'll stay put

Think you'll find we'll be OK in the UK. I'd have no concerns and been impressed when flying all over the UK this year with the secutity apparatus around me.

It's just sad. I like egyptian history and would like to visit there, I'm sure most of the people are fine but they're getting their country and economy ruined by these god bothering ars*holes.

There's no way I'd go for the foreseeable future.

What a mess a large area of the world is because of these ****s.

Jumper - it's all about holidaymakers trying to save a few pounds. They are not particularly bothered it seems that they could get machine gunned on a beach or blown out of the sky, just so long as they can save a few pounds on their holiday!

I know someone who got a Stanley knife onboard in their hand luggage. Only got picked up by security on the return journey.

A British plane had a near-miss in August, passengers were unaware of it at the time, for some reason details only emerged last night (?)

"Rocket 'attack' on UK tour jet: Pilot with 189 passengers dodged missile above Sharm El Sheikh in August with just seconds to spare from disaster"

"A British plane  came 'within 1,000ft' of a rocket as it approached Sharm El Sheikh.
The Thomson flight from London Stansted only took evasive action after the pilot spotted the missile speeding through the air"

I remember going to Taba just after university. It is basically 3 5 star hotels on a nice beach and was relatively cheap. The week after we were there was a huge bomb in the lobby of the Hilton next door. Glad to have done the Pyramids but certainly wouldn't go back anywhere near the area. Would have been 2004 so not exactly a new problem...

I wonder if they'll have ambulance chasers handing out flyers when they do get back as, you know, this obviously requires "compensation".

If the rocket incident did happen it was apparently ground to ground not aimed at them, not that it can't hurt.

During vietnam a plane was coming in across where artillery was firing, and ran out of luck:
