Has anyone else noticed that most young women in their teens and twenties now offer this way of delivering a spoken valediction - usually in a cod, high-pitched, American way, no matter how they usually speak or in which dialect?

Totally bizarre and so phonus-bolonus it makes them sound even thicker than they usually are.

Just where has it come from?

Or is it only in Stoke?!

Thinking about it; it's definitely not just in Stoke and it's not restricted to women in their teens and twenties as I had a call from someone from Essex the other day who signed off with the ridiculous "Thenk yeaww", who sounded previously in the call as someone who was in her thirties.

Plus, I can think of numerous "Thenk yeawws" from women in their thirties (possibly 40s?) here in Stoke recently.

I'll bet they all have a (if not numerous) tattoo(s) too.

That's exactly it - in the second link - Fishy, especially the second and third girls shown.

Where the hell has this ridiculous way of speaking come from?

It's rather strange in Stoke, Boxing, when some right rough piece from some neck-end place around here says something like:

"'ey up duck, dust know they kin ger a dubble fer 'alf price ternight?"

"Thanks for letting me know."

"Thenk yeaww."

Perhaps they got it from Groucho Marx who used the phrase a lot in his films?
Although somehow i doubt it.
